Realms of Evil Games Publishing has finally completed the first phase content editing for Careers in Villainy (our massive prestige class book) and we are now looking to start to work on the second book of The Dead Will Worship series, Mortis Arcanum.
What we want: We want detailed spells and magical items with a evil or cursed bent to them. We would like this book to have at least 500 new spells (at least 50 per level) in it and around 200 new magical items, magical item properties, or artifacts. No real 'theme' exists for this book besides the dark nature of the content and will be a general use resource for DMs and players who want spells and items with a vile bent to them.
Authors whose work is chosen for Mortis Arcanum will be paid 3 cents a word, 30 days after the book is released and will be illustrated by Kevin H. Yancey, the main Realms of Evil Games artist (whose work can be seen at the main Realms of Evil Games website). Contributing Authors will also be given one contributor's copy of Mortis Arcanum, free of charge.
Please Note: This book MAY or MAY NOT be printed by our imprinter. If the book is NOT selected to be printed as a hard copy book, then it will be sold as a PDF on RPGNow. If this happens, the 3 cents a word payment will be changed to a percentage of the sales from RPGNow.
Send Submissions to: RoETyrant@aol.com Open Call Closes: August 30th

I have decided that we will also include the following in Mortis Arcanum: Golems and Magical Familiars. Familiars should be magical in nature and not be simple animals. Golems are being added because player characters can create them if they have the materials and the right spells (Golems could be considered REALLY nice magical items in this light).
Golems should be written up in standard format for monsters and familiars should be sent to us in stat block formatting.
I am also thinking about adding a section on spell strategy, but I have no specific formatting for material yet. If you have an idea for a strategy that should go into the book, please send it to me as well.

I find it extremely strange that I have gotten more response from the RPG.Net freelancers froum than this one.

Maybe the rest of EN world is a bored with Vile as I am...
A topic I could really enjoy cranking out on is neccassary if the money is low or uncertain. You might point to this thread from one of the vile/mature/xrated debate threads on the main board. It may be more effective in this particular case to interest people who like the subject in doing some writing than finding lots of "writers" who like the subject. Just a suggestion.

So I write something up and I submit it and then you pay me based on how you publish my work. I don't think so - either flat rate or no rate. If I wanted commissions I'd be a salesman.
Well, you see..I have this problem with honesty. I could have just said "Hey, I am paying three cents a word" and then said nothing about the possibility of it being printed as a PDF (hence I wouldn't be able to pay anyone 3 cents a word when most PDF sales are less than $400).
I guess it's just a personal flaw, Drawmack.

You could have just stated the PDF percentage.. and then offered a increased pay if it goes to print. Same thing to you.. but the wording implies a bonus should it go to print... instead of a penalty to the writer if it doesn't go to print.

Exactly bill it as a pdf product with a % pay and then state, should this go to print each contributing author will receive an additional $0.03 per word.

Don't know about the additional.....
that would be more than most print products pay. More likely authors would receive additional funds to bring the rate to $.03/word.
*Nods* I'd suggest if it goes to print, then a bonus to make up the differece betweenthe % rate and 0.03 cents/word rate, yeah.
And really people, commission work isn't that bad. The pay is likely lower by a good chunk, but it comes a lot more than once. Me, I'm okay with a regular, small check finding it's way to my mailbox regularly. Kinda like Xmas, all the time. hehe
