Something odd?

http://www.rpgnow.com/reviews.php?

Is there a particular product on this page with many, many comments that sound as if they're written by the same person?

Maybe it's just me.

It actually does look pretty neat, but it does look like that a group of complete gobos was put to work writing bad reviews that give 5 a star review.

[edit]
It's the same story, i think faster than i can type...

Completely agree. It looks very neat. I'm just amazed at 14 comments so quickly that are all 5 star and do sound as if they were written by one person.

While suspicious, I am pretty sure that James' coding prevents anyone who has not purchased the product from doing a review. Perhaps the publisher contacted all those who had purchased the item, offered them a special deal and / or some example text of a review, and asked them to make a review...

Very possible. I've offered special deals to people who make comments so I have no problems at all with that.

It just looks strange.

The system does allow free books to be given by the publisher as well, and when that happens the person can cooment on the product. So he could have given all his friends coppies and then had them make the comments.

boy talk about comment-stuffing.
Well i know I'm NOT goign to pay $15 for that product.

However, Kithmaker did give it a good review at mortality.net, and his word is worth much more...

I believe that the system does not allow that. You have to have puchased the product on your account, whereas a complimentary copy goes out in a different fashion.

No guarantees, I never tested it this way.

I'm pretty sure you can, I'll test it tonight when I get home and let everyone know.

I'm pretty sure you can, as I believe that the complimentary copy feature was intended for sending out review copies. Don't quote me on that, of course.

Regardless of the comments, and before Kithmaker's review, I bought the thing. I'll vouch for it - it's darned good. I have to agree wholeheartedly with Kithmaker's assessment - it's a VERY good product - looks good, wears well, and is great for helping visualize stuff without breaking your bank.

So, FWIW, I would give these products 5 stars too... even if I do think the company president ran his mouth a little too much on the RPGNow publisher boards. He does good work with these models and should be proud of it.

Just for the record, I did spot check about 5 of the reviews and they where all from people who paid their $15 to get the product. I suspect he's giving away something in return for the reviews.

Of course by doing this and getting so many 5 star reviews so quickly, people tend not to believe them and it's pretty much waisted.

The sad thing is, it really does look like a great product.
