New PDF News/Reviews Site!

I've started a "sister-site" to EN World:

http://www.enworld.org/pdf/

This site will take the same approach to PDF products that EN World takes towards D20 in general. With a specialist site, I will be able to go into more detail and highlight more e-publishing related resources, products etc. that in the general EN World news.

It has only just started, so bear with me. Lots of work to do yet! Expect changes over the next week.

Hey Morrus, here's some ideas for stuff to put in your site (most of which you'll probably have already thought of anyway, but just in case )...

Have an equivalent of the RPGNow front page somewhere, with the latest releases displayed with front cover thumbnails.

Have the reviews top 20 on your front page, so that people can see instantly what's best. Maybe also make this like RPGnow with the 'at the moment' and 'all time' lists (At the moment will have to be based on a smaller threshold (probably 2) and say the last two months reviews.

Get more staff reviewers (I don't know if this would cost you anything - I hope not) so that theres a better turnover of reviews, and put out the word that if a publisher send you a free copy you'll send it to each of your staff and they'll get staggered reviews every week or 2 weeks.

Peer reviews might be a good idea. I personally would like to write reviews, but worry that it might not be seen as appropriate. I'd also like to hear what other publishers have to say about our work. Maybe this could be restricted access to publishers only if people might think it inappropriate to do it publicly (which brings me to my another point...)

Have a special publisher login which we pay for, a bit like the community supporters, but with some extra features for publishers, eg news posting, peer reviews, etc. This way we can all help out support the site.

Thats all for now. My brain tends to spill out ideas at random, so I may add some more later.

Cheerio, and sorry if you have thought of these already

Ben

I've sent email to two addresses of yours-

morrus@d20reviews.com

- and -

morrus@enworld.freeserve.co.uk

-about a problem with the new site. The review link for the CMG product is not functioning properly.

The second email should work. The other one has been obsolete for over a year.

I caught the broken link myself earlier today.

That's the one that goes out with products you send from RPGNow. You may want to edit that in your vendor options.

Thanks. Sadly, whoever visited the new site in the last 24 hours were given a false impression from that link.

Can't. My other email address is the login for my EN World account there.

Anyway, let's get back to discussing the new site rather than my email address!

Great idea! I heard a rumor that Crothian was scaling back his posting regimen so he could become a staff reviewer for PDFs.

In what other areas are you looking for support? Aside from keeping up the entries in the publisher section, is there something individual publishers can do to help that wouldn't present a conflict of interest?

The big one is keeping the publisher section updated, as that's where I'll be linking to for reviews.

Other than that, keeping me updated as much as possible would be great - especially if you have news about upcoming products, previews, that sort of thing.

I'm sure people will have more ideas for the site, and as and when they come up, help will of course be welcomed!

Also, any help you can give in spreading the good word would be fantastic!

Yep! It's about time PDF reviews got a little bit of the spotlight. If you look at Crothian's past 40+ reviews, you'll see he's a great, reliable reviewer, and I know he'll do a good job.

He was also an ENnies judge this year, so he's an old hand at evaluating products.
