Quick Miniatures question (regarding size)

I would like to know what size a miniature is generally (I don't usually use them but I intend to in the future). (inches or milimeters in fine by me ). If anyone can go further and tell me what size a halfling min would be...that would be AWESOME! ^.^

RPG minis range from 28-32 millimeters to five feet. As such, your typical mini will be in that range.

Most of the newer Halflings are around 18-20 mms at the eye. To me that works out to about 30mm scale.

Hey Porge,

Were I to want a custom made figure (1/2 a year from now) how much would you charge? I need to gather $$$ up and I am getting price quotes from people. Though I am not even certain that you do custom made figures...even if you don't you are still great at painting them.

I am just having a hard time finding girl figures for my halfing sorceress. The last few times I have had to use a hag with long-ish hair.

Reaper minis makes some fantastic looking halflings, both male and female. You should give them a try. Use their Fantasy Figure Finder to easily find a suitable miniature. Here you can see and example that might be suitable as a halfling sorceress.

Thanks for the compliment!

My sculpting-fu is average at best. I fancy myself as someone who is an excellent modifier of miniatures and a decent painter. My route would be to find a miniature that is close to what you want and then talk about modifications.

I'm currently doing just such a thing with the PCs in my campaign. Let me tell ya' putting a gnome bard on a dog mount and changing his armor is a real pain-in-the-rump! Hi Lalato

A decent sculptor will charge you about $250-$300 for such a sculpt. A professional sculptor would be around $400 - $500. Yeah, I know - BIG $.

A modification would be much much cheaper. There are a five female halflings currently offered by reaper:

My choice for a base figure would be 02831 : Olivia Copperbell, Female Halfling

Here is a painted picture of her by the very talented Flynn over on the Reaper Boards:

You are very welcome for the compliment.

I definatly did check out that website. My problem, I think is that my character appears very simple. I would very likely have to get another girl figure (probably human from the looks of it) and go from there. All the other figures are wearing so much stuff. Mia only has a simple knee-length dress on with a lithe cloak and maybe a small bag of holding at her side (she keeps everything in it). But I think I could pull of getting two (maybe three) figures and having them modified, I could even paint them myself.

I am thinking it would be that figure with the sword out of her hand replaced with a morning star, some details on her dress scratched out and on her boots. I don't know what could go in her other hand but that might depend on what figure has the morning star I need. Her only other weapon is a sling, plain and ordinary (at 5th level *sighs with shame*).

This one is not wearing too much and replacing her sword with a morning star should be a cinch.

I really like D'karr's suggestion. You could easily file down the chain to make it look like a plain dress.
