Here I will comment on RPG related material I have recently read or played. If I keep current with this it may serve as a long term tool to help me decide what books to keep. I guess you could consider this a series of short (or lazy) reviews.
A note for any readers who stumble upon this. I haven't yet decided to make the 4E plunge, so initial comments will most likely be 3E centric.

Dungeon Crawl Classics # 50 - Vault of the Iron Overlord
http://www.goodman-games.com/5049preview.html

SPOILER ALERT - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED - TWICE!
I have bought a few of the DCC series, and have been marginally impressed. But this one (written by Monte Cook) has got me juiced to start a new short term game just to run it!
In a nut shell, this is an old fashioned dungeon crawl with a twist; sections of the entire dungeon rotate and only by finding the proper activators and employing them in proper sequence can you advance deeper into the center of the circular vault. Yummy!
Filled with false doors, traps, puzzles, and of course - monsters, this should fill 3 or 4 sessions of gaming fun. Thanks for the recommendation, Crothian!
BFG Says: Scrounge $14.99 together and buy this for your 7th-9th level 3.5 game if you are (or want to be) the rat bastard type of DM.

Ooh. This sounds cool--My GM just pulled a similar trick on me--We were stuck in an underground crypt, and the mysterious teleporting giant kept manipulating the walls on us.
Unfortunately, it looks like the giant got into and out of the control room via his dimension door ability. There might be another way in, but we'll have to wait unit fall to find out what it is. The game is on hiatus over summer break.
Still, that GM is now playing in my 4e game, and I'm aching for a little payback. Do you see this module being suited for a 4e conversion? What kind of monsters does it feature? Is it easily adaptable to a desert or jungle environment?
On a seperate note, I'd like you to consider adding your blog to the blogshelf.Posted 28th June 2008 at 09:57 AM by arscott

I'm probably the wrong person to ask about 4E conversions, as I don't know much about the new edition... but I imagine it wouldn't be that difficult. Traps & magical effects may prove to be more problematic than monster substitutions. Monsters include Clay Golem, Girrallons, Air & Dust Mephits, Cloakers, Derro, Lamias, Gorgon, Black Pudding, Gibbering Mouther, Gargoyles, Water Elementals, Dire Animal Zombies and more.
I don't see why the Vault of Rings couldn't be dropped into any environment.
I'll definitely have a look at the blog listings soon... I saw that, but was considering seeing how regular I will actually be posting before adding this to your list.Posted 30th June 2008 at 05:42 AM by BigFreekinGoblinoid
