Kail Greenbough is a prosperous local farmer, and Blackie is his pet dog. Adventure Role: Kail Greenbough plays a key role in Challenge #4, when the PC is asked to mediate a dispute between him and the elf ranger Rumil Amanth. Knowledge of Kail's full name and Blackie's name should also help the PC solve the lock puzzle in Challenge #2. Physical Description: middle-aged; tall; burly; tanned skin; black eyes; graying black hair. Blackie is a black, wolf-like dog similar to an Alsatian. Personality Traits: blunt, gruff, stubborn. Here are a couple more adjunct monsters, a wolf skeleton and a rat zombie, obtained by basically adding and adapting certain elements of the grey wolf and the dire rat to a skeleton and zombie adjunct respectively. Wolf Skeleton, Level 1 Adjunct
Medium natural animate (undead) (50 xp) Initiative +3 Senses Perception +2; darkvision HP 14; Bloodied 7; a critical hit reduces an adjunct to 0 hit points instantly AC 16; Fortitude 13, Reflex 14, Will 13 Immune disease, poison; Resist 10 necrotic; Vulnerable 5 radiant Speed 6 Bite (standard; at-will)
+6 vs. AC; 4 damage, or 6 damage against a prone target. Combat Advantage
If the wolf skeleton has combat advantage against the target, the target is also knocked prone on a hit. Alignment unaligned Languages - Str 15 (+2) Dex 17 (+3) Wis 14 (+2) Con 13 (+1) Int 1 (-5) Cha 1 (-5)

This following hazard will be used in my solo adventure for a Novice level paladin, Rat Warren Rescue. It's basically the 5th-level Treacherous Ice Sheet obstacle, de-leveled using the monster rules and reduced in size. Slippery Rocks, Level 1 Adjunct Obstacle
Hazard (XP 50) A patch of slick, slime-covered rocks lies across the passageway.
Hazard: Slippery rocks fill a 2-square by 2-square area, turning it into difficult terrain. Perception
No check is necessary to notice the rocks.
Additional Skill: Nature
DC 18: The character identifies the squares of slippery rocks. Trigger
The rocks attack when a creature enters or begins its turn in a square of slippery rocks. It also attacks when a creature stands up from prone in a square of slippery rocks. Attack
Opportunity Action
Melee
Target: Creature on the rocks
Attack: +4 vs Reflex
Hit: 1d6 damage and fall prone. If the creature is already prone, no damage but its turn ends immediately. Countermeasures
With a DC 23 Acrobatics check and a move action, a character can move into a square of slippery rocks without risk of falling. If the check fails or the character moves more than 1 square, the slippery rocks make an attack.
A character can jump over the patch of slippery rocks with a DC 20 Athletics check, or a DC 10 Athletics check if he makes a running start. | Registered User | | Views 222

Here's another adjunct monster, based off the Monster Manual stirge. I basically just halved the hit points and damage, after converting variable damage to an average number. Stirgeling, Level 1 Adjunct
Small natural beast (50 xp) Initiative +7 Senses Perception +0; darkvision HP 11; Bloodied 5; a critical hit reduces an adjunct to 0 hit points instantly AC 15; Fortitude 12, Reflex 13, Will 10; see also bite Speed 2, fly 6 (hover) Bite (standard; at-will)
+6 vs. AC; 1 damage, and the target is grabbed (until escape) and takes ongoing 2 damage until it escapes. An attached stirgeling doesn't make attack rolls while grabbing a target and gains a +5 bonus to its AC and Reflex defenses. Adjunct monsters (which I have previously referred to as Demi monsters) straddle the gap between minions and normal monsters. They require less bookkeeping than normal monsters, but unlike minions, they have more than one hit point and are not immune to damage on a miss. However, a PC may still kill adjuncts in one shot with a critical hit. An adjunct may be modified from a minion and is equal to two minions.
To make an adjunct from a minion:
1. Change hit points to 4 + half Constitution score + 4 x level.
2. Remove the note that a missed attack never damages the monster.
3. Add a note that a critical hit reduces it to 0 hit points instantly.
4. Increase its damage by 50%.
5. Double the XP award for the monster.
The following is a sample adjunct, modified from the giant rat minion monster in the PH, which will be used in my solo adventure for a Novice level paladin, Rat Warren Rescue: Alpha Giant Rat, Level 1 Adjunct
Small natural beast (XP 50) Initiative +3 Senses Perception +5; low-light vision HP 14; Bloodied 7; a critical hit reduces an adjunct to 0 hit points instantly AC 15; Fortitude 13, Reflex 15, Will 12 Speed 6, climb 3 Bite (standard; at-will)
+6 vs. AC; 4 damage Alignment unaligned Languages - Str 12 (+1) Dex 17 (+3) Wis 10 (+0) Con 12 (+1) Int 2 (-4) Cha 6 (-2) | Registered User | | Views 436
