Character backgrounds

Posted 26th March 2009 at 06:05 PM by lin_fusan
Here are a few questions that may help you flesh out some backgrounds for your character:

What do you want your character to do?

Where do you come from?

Why are you here?

What do you want your character to achieve in the Heroic Tier?

What do you want your character to achieve in the Paragon Tier?

What do you want your character to achieve in the Epic Tier?

What was the adventure that got you and the other characters together? Why did it make you famous or infamous? Was it a remarkable success or a glorious failure?

(I will also attach a rtf file with some background options in a bit. I still need to write them up.)

So, after much deliberation, I have decided on a back story for my character.

I choose a Dwarf Warlock with the star pact.

What do you want your character to do?

-My Character is trying to discover the answer to the mysterious runic tattoo she discovered on her body after a powerful vision of thunder, wind, snakes, and stars. The quest for answers lead her to gaze deeply into the night sky.

    Where do you come from?

    - My character came to Asgard as a baby, along with a group of dwarves fleeing the evil of their ancestral homeland.

    Why are you here?

-To find out not only the answer to the mystery tattoo, but find out how it is related to the long winters, and possibly Ragnarok

What do you want your character to achieve in the Heroic Tier?

    - Grow in strength and skill, and uncover mysteries. My character is out specifically to find out if it was the gods that left their mark, and for what purpose. Is she a force for good or evil?

What do you want your character to achieve in the Paragon Tier?

    - Bring doom to my enemies.

What do you want your character to achieve in the Epic Tier?

-More doom, though hopefully prevent the end of the world. Or, if it is her destiny, allow it to fall to ruin in order to create something better.

What was the adventure that got you and the other characters together? Why did it make you famous or infamous? Was it a remarkable success or a glorious failure?

-I drove off a pack of wolves from a town. Since then, she began training in earnest, and as her skills improve, my character meets more and more interesting people.

Let's hope we kick some ass and take some names this weekend!

So, yeah, I've come to some decision regarding my character as well. I've decided to go with the perceived gimp class of the PHB2 and make a Protector Shaman.

Tao Shaan is a Human Shaman living on the outskirts of the village proper, surviving on nature and generally prone to exploring the entwining lands of the Norse and Chinese Gods. While earlier in life he studied to become a mage, he found his true calling among the stormy spirits surrounding the lands around Karvfall (read: He has the Arcane Initiate multiclass feat). He considers himself the unofficial protector of his friends and fellow villagers, which is where we find him when the Adventure begins...

His Spirit Companion resembles a diminutive version of a classic Chinese Cloud Dragon-- "Goong Goong" has a thick serpentine body with the head of a lion pup, swimming languidly through the air like a sea otter while trailing flowing whiskers like a catfish.

As for Tao Shaan himself, I envision him to be similar to the Chinese Witch Doctor from Conan the Barbarian (movie), Akiro.

What do you want your character to do?
He will heal and help protect his fellow adventurers, while trying to keep out of harm's way.

    Where do you come from?
Tao was raised in Karvfall, but by a family used to the traditions of the Chinese bandit Kings. His Protector Spirit is a blending of his familial Ancestral worship and the nature he so loves.

    Why are you here?
To serve as a guardian to my friends and allies, before I, too, become a guardian spirit who must be directed to aid my descendents.

What do you want your character to achieve in the Heroic Tier?
That which does not kill us makes us stronger.

Or, survive against the odds that ENWorld tends to hold against Protector Shamans.

What do you want your character to achieve in the Paragon Tier?
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women!

Or, eventually fall down along the Tempest Spirit Paragon Path, or possibly the Spellstorm Mage Paragon Path.

What do you want your character to achieve in the Epic Tier?
Honor and fear were heaped upon his name and, in time, he became a king by his own hand... but that is another story.

Or, I don't actually have an idea yet. Let me get back to you on that one.

What was the adventure that got you and the other characters together? Why did it make you famous or infamous? Was it a remarkable success or a glorious failure?

Can I meta this? The dps was so great, the floor was a stain of red. I was just happy to heal the bunch of damned fool strikers!
