Outremer?

I've been thinking about picking up some classic board/wargames for a while, and Outremer is one that caught my attention (I'd rather like Croisades, but can't read French). It isn't cheap, however, due to the fact that it's somewhat obscure. . . so I figured I would solicit some opinions first. Would you recommend Outremer to a historical boardgame junkie? Also, what other games in the old Cry Havoc line may warrant a purchase?

How much do you know about the Cry Havoc! series?

It's sort of medieval ASL. Each counter represents a single fighter, with the two counters representing four differend statuses.

The game system is not very complicated; you can play one of the bigger scenarios in one evening without problems.

The (hex-)maps show generic terrain and can be combined in any number of ways, even from different games of the series.

One more thing: If you have to travel with your games, avoid this series at all costs. The game boxes are huge (as in Gibson Games' Britannia-version huge).

I can't tell you anything about the English version of the rules; it is a game by an Italian designer published by a French company...

Not much admittedly. I know that it's wildly popular and largely squad-based but, other than that, not much.

Ack! That might be an issue, as I live in a studio apartment (no room for gaming here, really, which means that I always play at the FLGS or at a friend's house).
