In addition, you will find a previously unseen Aaron Acevedo illustration from the book above.

Gen Con - in its 50th year this year - has sold out of 4-day badges! You can still get single-day badges, although there are only limited numbers of those left. Gen Con is currently the world's largest tabletop gaming convention (followed by Essen Spiel, Origins, and UK Games Expo). Note that there is still opportunity to get a 4-day badge for Gen Con by donating some of your time to helping man the ENnies booth at the show.

Modiphius Entertainment’s Star Trek Adventures: Core Rulebook is now available on PDF through DriveThruRPG/RPGNow. How big is the RPG market? Pretty damn tiny, is the answer. As of 2016/2017 it's about $35m in size, according to ICv2. That's of a Hobby Games market currently worth just over a billion dollars. The RPG segment is a mere 2.9% of the overall Hobby Games market, which includes boardgames, miniatures, hobby card games, and collectible games. Of course, the competition for RPGs isn't just boardgames or card games, it's entertainment; and on that scale, the RPG market is a tiny niche of the Hobby Games market, which is a tiny niche of the global entertainment market. Note that these figures are US and Canada only, and include Kickstarter sales.

Four blocks from the subway, in South Philadelphia’s Point Breeze neighborhood, you find a novel take on cuisine and nightlife called American Sardine Bar. This hotspot features the staples of art crowd and hipster culture. Home to creative food, craft beer, cheap shots of rotgut whiskey, and an upstairs bar with a stage where one could expect to see local comics, acoustic acts, and open mic nights. Tonight however, was something a little different. Tonight ASB was hosting Drinks and Dragons.

The Paranoia role-playing game is probably the longest running satirical role-playing game available in print. A recent successful Kickstarter project funded the new edition hitting the shelves currently. The game is published by Mongoose Publishing and project managed by seminal designer James Wallis. What should make a lot of people happy is that the game is a compact, streamlined take on the classic game that comes in a boxed set that includes the game and dice. Probably my favorite bit of the new game is that the character "sheets" that you can get for the game are in fact dry erase mini-boards, in keeping with the lethality of the game.

There's a new What's OLD is NEW (WOIN) sourcebook in town for the sci-fi gamers out there. The Borians are a core race in N.E.W. The Science Fiction Roleplaying Game, and now they have their own expansion - 30 pages detailing their culture, physiology, homeworld, along with new careers, exploits, equipment, and starships. If you're playing a Borian, or running a game with Borians in it, this book contains a trove of information. Special thanks go to wacksteven and the crew of Turn Order: Warped, especially PeachyPixel8, who provided welcome inspiration for this book!

Plane Shift: Amonkhet is the latest of WotC's Magic: the Gathering / Dungeons & Dragons crossovers. Previous crossovers included Plane Shift: Zendikar, and Plane Shift: Kaladesh. After last week's announcement that Cubicle 7 were letting a number of their licensed games expire, and were discontinuing their Rocket Age RPG, Rocket Ages designer, Ken Spencer, said that an announcement on the games future would be coming soon. Well, ‘soon’ has come swiftly along with the news that Ken Spencer has acquired the rights to Rocket Age off Cubicle 7 and has started a new company, Why Not Games, to keep the game alive by not only publishing the existing line but publishing new material too. For the full announcement please read on…

Big Eyes Small Mouth 3rd edition might have been a more popular game despite coming too late to save its parent company of Guardians of the Order. That having been said, the 3rd edition of Big Eyes Small Mouth (shortened to BESM) is exemplary of quality and dedication to the anime aesthetic coupled with tabletop game design.

Game Informer's recent issue featured a new ranking, the Top 100 RPGs, but the list was really about role-playing video games. Tabletop gamers know that there's at least one game that should be #1.

A rundown of the New Releases that should be hitting games stores this coming week! Board games, card games, RPGs, Wargames, Miniatures and collectible games... hopefully something for everyone! For more information about any of the products please contact your local games store.

For many old-school gamers, it was the original Star Trek role-playing game – with no bloody A, B, C or D. Star Trek RPGs, much like the USS Enterprise herself, warped through some major refits through the decades, but few iterations can match the scope of FASA’s Star Trek: The Role Playing Game. FASA held the license for much of the 1980s and delivered a detailed and crunchy means of experiencing life in Starfleet during the classic era of Kirk and Spock. FASA’s extensive line of rulebooks, adventure scenarios and setting guides created a rich canon that often built upon elements that were only hinted at during the on-screen depictions of the Enterprise’s five-year mission.

I'm going to stick with Theme Weeks for a while and see how that goes. As always, I'd appreciate you letting me know if you like the idea or not. If you do like it, then please feel free to suggest themes for the future! This week (which I rather imagine, like others, will recur more than once) is all about Magic, the Arcane, and how that plays into your game. Sure, there has to be a D&D-related Pick in there, but I think you'll find a pretty interesting mix of stuff across many fields here.

We have an exciting new preview of the Starfinder Roleplaying Game direct from Paizo Publishing and features an introduction from James L. Sutter that is exclusive to EN World. This preview is a couple of spreads from the upcoming core book. It gives us a look at what the layout of the book will look like, and some clues about will be in the book as well.
