Princes of the Apocalypse Basic Rules Supplement

I like that they're doing this, I like it a lot!

WotC has posted a 55-page PDF adventure supplement for Princes of the Apocalypse so you can run the adventure with just the free Basic Rules. It's got all the magic items, stats and spells that aren't already in the book or the basic rules.

Apologies, but just for clarity, what's the difference between this and the Elemental Evil Player's Companion thing that came out a few weeks ago. That wasn't the Basic update?

This is the "DM's Companion", if you will. Monsters and magic items.

Basically this is the DM stuff ( monsters magic items) that aren't in basic rules

The other supplement you refer to is more player side with races and spells

The Player's Companion has all-new stuff. The Adventure Supplement has the stuff from the core books that's used in the adventure, but can't be found in the Basic Rules.

Right. It was released for use with PotA, but certainly useful in any game, core or Basic.

They do not want to sell us the core books (since they are providing all that is needed in the form of free PDFs). They want to sell us the APs.

It is a bit like Pathfinder. Just with their PRD you can play, but if you want to do the APs, you have to buy them. None of the stories/fluff are covered by the OGL.

Of course, core books sells are welcomed, they are just ancillary to the APs post new edition launch.
