Licensed Role-Playing Games: Threat Or Menace?

Let's just get the controversial statement out of the way: I'm not a fan of licensed settings in role-playing games. Today's column is rolling out of a Skype conversation that I had with a friend the other day. There's a lot of cool RPGs out there that are based upon cool movies, comic books, novels and cartoons. None of them are bad, and I'm not...

  • (KS) Want a Cook Book? Want a Roleplaying Game? Have both with Cooking with Dice!

Cooking with Dice is like a traditional tabletop role playing game, but it comes with a delicious twist. You take on the role of a chef-adventurer, and cook your way out of trouble... in real life... in your own kitchen.

Whether you're looking for a way to make your friendly game night more delicious, or a way to make your family dinnertime more fun... we've got you covered.

Cooking with Dice combines the best parts of an RPG with real-life cooking. You're presented with a set of character sheets, a scenario, a selection of formulas, roll tables, and a scoring system that allows you to level up your characters. You can play solo, cooperatively, or competitively with friends and family.

The Acide Test is the first book in the Cooking with Dice series and will be atleast 140 pages, written by Jennifer Howlett and illustrated by Yuribelle.

We'd like to use the Cooking with Dice series to break some of the basic assumptions about cooking. In this case, the assumption is, "Cooking requires heat."

In The Acid Test, you're tasked with helping a pair of acid dragons to impress their friends and neighbors with a legendary cocktail party. But there's a catch: they want to feature appetizers cooked with acid, rather than fire.

No need for an oven or stove - you'll be using acidic ingredients like vinegar and lemon juice to take the place of heat (though you might use the microwave here or there to speed things up a bit.)

You'll be using acid to 'cook' a variety of foods, and will be learning a bit about food chemistry along the way.

Interested, then head over to the Cooking with Dice Kickstarter and check out a load more info… including character classes, levelling up and a whole lot more!

The Cooking with Dice Kickstarter campaign is live now and continues through to Thursday 13th April.
