Ankur- Kingdom of the Gods

Last summer we featured Ankur - Kingdom of the Gods in our RPG Crowdfunding News Column when it was on Kickstarter. The campaign ended successfully and the game has recently gone on general release through Chris Miller Games. With its blend of sci-fi and Sumerian mythology it’s certainly an interesting blend.

ANKUR - Kingdom of the Gods is a new sci-fi/fantasy tabletop role-playing game by Chris Miller Games. The 331 page core rules book is a complete stand-alone game incorporating original game mechanics. Inside players will find five unique player character species, seven character castes, a game master’s section, and a bestiary. The game mechanics strive for a sense of realism and fairness in their design. There are no class levels in ANKUR; instead, your skills have circles of ability that determine your effectiveness. A character’s morality has a role in gameplay and grants the character a specific morality-based ability dependent on their chosen path. Whether you’re a novice role-player or a seasoned veteran, you’ll find that the ANKUR - Kingdom of the Gods RPG is a unique and interesting gaming system.

The world of ANKUR attempts to immerse you in a setting that puts a distinct sci-fi spin on various ancient world mythologies. The game’s setting is largely based on ancient Sumerian mythology and is further inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Maurice Chatalain, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, and Zacharia Sitchin. The game’s timeline takes place on Earth (known as Ki) just after the Great Flood, some 25,000 years in the past. A species of alien beings from the planet Nibir, in the farthest reaches of our solar system, come to earth to mine gold for the production of mana. Through genetic manipulation, they create a variety of humanoid slaves to mine the gold. A series of cataclysms and power struggles set in motion events that will entwine the destinies of master and slave forever!

ANKUR is a world where physics and metaphysics seem to blend seamlessly. Since the Great Flood, many forgotten ruins and ancient alien technologies lay buried awaiting rediscovery and exploration. Strange monsters roam the countryside, remnants of a prehistoric past all but swept away by the hands of fate. Politics and treachery are around every corner as alien and humankind alike struggle to claim their place in this world. It is a time when humans are not the dominant species on the planet, and their future still looks precarious. It has only been a few thousand years since the Great Flood, and though alien gods still hold this world in their grip, their earthly stronghold is but a pale reflection of its former glory. It is up to the players to decide the fate of their world. Prepare to enter a world of prehistoric monsters, flying saucers, swords, and sorcery. Adventure awaits you in ANKUR - Kingdom of the Gods.

Interestingly, I supported this Kickstarter, since it pays nice homage to Zecharia Sitchin's books, though I am yet to play a session. ;-)
