The OSR or Old School Renaissance (or perhaps better phrased Revival?) has really changed how many gamers play RPGs over the past decade or so. Coupled with the ease of publishing online, numerous new publishers and new authors have taken ideas of the earliest forms of role-playing games and re-invented them with fresh new designs.
For gaming fans looking to get the low-down on upcoming product releases, GENCON provides the perfect opportunity to meet-and-greet their favorite publishers and authors. In seminar after seminar, mainstream and indie publishers offer tantalizing glimpses into new game designs and news about product lines due to be released over the coming year.
Best of all, many of these seminars offer a chance to speak directly with publishers and game designers, providing a live forum for asking questions and giving feedback about a Role-playing game or system.
Most roleplaying gamers would probably agree that creating a brand new character is half the fun of getting into a new campaign. There’s something magical about creating an alternate persona, and choosing the statistics and mechanics that make that character come to life within the game’s rules. Designing a detailed character is almost an art form, and it can be a deeply satisfying creative process that can lead to hours and hours of enjoyment with one’s friends in new world of adventure.

    DungeonScape Closing Down!
[31615/13324 views | Tweet This Article! | Share on Facebook]

    by

Here's some unfortunate news. It seems that Trapdoor Technologies and WotC are parting ways.

Trapdoor has been working on DungeonScape, the official D&D 5th Edition electronics tools suite.

it it seems they intend to continue with and do something with the software themselves, but their relationship with WotC will not continue. What this means for the software
is unclear. What this also means for WotC's plans for electronic support of D&D 5E is also a mystery - WotC hasn't traditionally had a good relationship with electronic tools or platforms; in the past eTools and Gleemax met similar fates. [268 comments]

    Greetings friends,

Today, we have news that is both sobering and hopeful. Wizards of the Coast and Trapdoor Technologies will no longer be working together to develop DungeonScape for Fifth Edition D&D, and we will not be releasing the product in its current form. The beta program on all platforms will be shutting down at noon (MST) on Friday, October 31.

Although we can’t reveal all of the details regarding the future of DungeonScape, we are happy to say that there is indeed a future—so fear not!

This project, 100% internally funded, conceptualized, and built by our talented team at Trapdoor, has been a labor of love from the very beginning. We set out to change the way RPGs are played at the table—making our game night more about enjoying the adventure than searching for rules. We still hold true to that quest. We believe that our Story Machine™ is a powerful tool for converting information into something more useful and rich.

We’re working hard to solidify the details of what’s next for DungeonScape, and we’ll share that information with you when it’s appropriate.

Until then, please continue to follow us on Twitter and Facebook. We’ll do our very best to answer any questions you have through social media or email.

    Long live the adventure.
    Love,
    The Trapdoor Technologies Team

Wizards of the Coast responded with a brief statement:

Wizards of the Coast has ended its relationship with Trapdoor Technologies and their DungeonScape application. If you participated in the beta and have questions regarding the application itself, please contact Trapdoor directly.

It’s never easy to end a relationship with one of our business partners, but we remain committed to creating great tabletop and digital gaming experiences for Dungeons & Dragons players and DMs around the world.

    Pathfinder RPG News

557 pages, five adventures! The first act of the critically acclaimed ZEITGEIST: The Gears of Revolution Adventure Path now compiled into a gorgeous hardcover book!

These five adventures are the first act of a steam & spell campaign for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Steam and soot darken the skies above the city of Flint, and the choking products of its industrial forges sweep from the majestic harbor to the fey rain forests that dot its knife-toothed mountains. The Unseen Court, the Great Hunt, and the many spirits of the land no longer receive tribute, but they cannot enter these new domains of steam and steel to demand their tithe. The impoverished workers who huddle in factory slums fear monsters of a different breed, shadowy children of this bleak urban labyrinth.

Times are turning. The skyseers—Risur's folk prophets since their homeland’s birth—witness omens in the starry wheels of heaven, and they warn that a new era is nigh. But what they cannot foresee, hidden beyond the smog of the night sky, is the face of this coming era, the spirit of the age. The zeitgeist.

This tome contains Act One of ZEITGEIST: The Gears of Revolution, a cinematic adventure path designed for experienced Game Masters. These five 'steam and spell' adventures will take your party—members of the Royal Homeland Constabulary—from 1st to 8th level as they solve murders, engage in magical spycraft, and unearth villainous conspiracies. Take a step away from traditional fantasy, and play a part in shaping the coming age!

    by

Robert J Schwalb, who you may know from his work on D&D, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, A Song of Ice and Fire, and much more, has launched a new company. The first release from Schwalb Entertainment will be a brand new RPG called Shadow of the Demon Lord, which is described as "dark fantasy". "In Shadow of the Demon Lord, the player characters are embattled survivors struggling for existence in the ruins of the last great empire as the world teeters on the brink of the oblivion at the hands of the unspeakable Demon Lord. It is a landscape littered with ancient relics, suffused with dark magic, and rife with abandoned cities and ruins infested with terrifying creatures spawned from nightmares." This will be a Kickstarter in Spring 2015.

    Paranoia Kickstarter from Mongoose

Mongoose Publishing launched a Kickstarter for a new edition of the Paranoia RPG this morning. It's already hit £23K of its £30K goal with over 500 backers in just a few hours, so it looks like it's going to be a big 'un. "The classic RPG of a darkly humorous future; Rebooted by James Wallis to be faster and even easier to play."

If you're not familiar with the Paranoia RPG, here's a quick description from the Kickstarter page:

Serve the Computer! The Computer is your friend!

Imagine a world designed by Kafka, Stalin, Orwell, Huxley, Sartre and the Marx Brothers.

Paranoia is a roleplaying game set in a darkly humorous future. In Paranoia, a well-meaning but deranged computer desperately protects the citizens of an underground warren from all sorts of real and imagined enemies. You play one of The Computer's elite agents. Your job is to search out and destroy the enemies of The Computer. Your worst fear is that The Computer will discover that you are one of these enemies.

    Paranoia:
A light-hearted game of terror, death, bureaucracies, mad scientists, mutants, dangerous weapons, and insane robots, which encourages players to lie, to cheat, and backstab each other at every turn.
