    Meet the latest Pathfinder Iconic

Yestrday Paizo introduced the next of the new iconic characters from the Advanced Class Guide: Shardra the shaman. Shardra will also be a playable character in the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Wrath of the Righteous set due for release in February 2015. Shardra is notable for being the game's first transgender iconic character. Paizo editor F. Wesley Schneider describes the character thusly:

We just debuted the Pathfinder RPG’s newest iconic character, Shardra, the iconic shaman (a member of one of the new classes in the Advanced Class Guide). She’s the character we at Paizo will be using as our stand-in for shaman players in art, pregenerated characters, miniatures, stories, etc, going forward. She’s an awesome looking character, who, like all of our iconics, is depicted by artist Wayne Reynolds. Her Meet the Iconics story is written by one of our close friends and veteran freelancers Crystal Frasier. Shardra’s amazing and we’ll be seeing her adventures as one of the Pathfinder RPG’s iconic heroes for years to come.

We’ve had iconics of many genders, ethnicities, sexualities, etc, but Shardra is our first transgender iconic. This might not be a big deal for you, but I expect it to be for a fair number of readers, fantasy lovers, friends, and fellow gamers out there.

The Pathfinder Iconics have always been our stand-ins for player characters, for our readers, for the adventurers taking part in Pathfinder games across the world. We’ve purposefully made these heroes a diverse array of characters, not just for artistic reasons, but as an attempt to make sure that anyone can look through a Pathfinder RPG rulebook, adventure, story, whatever, and find a character who they identify them, whether it be a dashing fighter like Valeros, a lesbian cleric like Kyra, or a woman in tune with the spirits like Shardra.

    Dogslicer Ale Goblin Minimate

The third of four goblin Minimate photo s sent along by Paizo's Erik Mona, this is the Dogslicer Ale Goblin, "named after the official Pathfinder beer at Scotty's Brewhouse in Indianapolis, not far from the Gen Con convention center. Scotty's is always the place to be for off-site Pathfinder Society games or casual socializing with Pathfinder fans at the convention. They've got a full menu inspired by the Pathfinder game, as well as the aforementioned Dogslicer Ale. This Minimate is available for $5 from Scotty's during the convention." Note that if you're at Gen Con and thinking of dropping by Scotty's Brewhouse, you can check out their awesome Pathfinder-themed menu here.

Here's a look at a page frome the feats section of the Player's Handbook. [107 comments] Also, the D&D Adventurer's League Player's Guide (21 pages) is available to download for free! Finally, FRP Games has listed a D&D Adventurer's Handbook and Princes of the Apocalypse [33 comments] along with various token sets, and a Tyranny of Dragons vinyl "Castle Seige" game mat and a "Cloud giants castle" game mat.

    Pathfinder RPG News

    • Paizo CEO Lisa Stevens was interviewed by Dave Gross about her Gen Con memories, which I can exclusively report here.
    • A new customer service job has been posted exclusively at Paizo.com.
    • Erik Mona has sent along another exclusive Pathfinder Minimate goblin reveal. About this one, he says: "The Pathfinder Goblin Hunt at Gen Con features several goblin-themed promotional items. Some of the most exciting are 2-inch Minimates figurines, created by Diamond Select Toys. The second goblin reveal is Konkrud, who is feeling a bit under the weather due to too much gaming. This is the Minimate version of last year's popular promotional Pathfinder Battles figure of the same name, and he comes complete with his very own dogslicer and a bunch of scabs on his ashen skin. Konkrud will be available as a prize in the Pathfinder Society Organized Play program in the Sagamore Ballroom in the convention center's second floor, where more than 1000 gamers will be playing Pathfinder all weekend long. After each event, players receive a special wooden token they can turn in at a prize station for a d20 roll that qualifies them for cool prizes. Roll high enough, and Konkrud could be yours! After the convention, we'll be selling a few hundred Konkruds held back from the convention for folks who do not get a chance to attend, but Gen Con will be the only opportunity to take this guy home for FREE!"

    ENnies Voting Ends Today!

If you haven't yet voted in the 2014 Gen Con EN World RPG Awards, you have just the rest of today to do so. After that, the voting booth closes, and we start tallying up the votes ready to announce them live at our grand ceremony at Gen Con in a couple of weeks, on Friday 15th August. Be sure to be there at the event, hosted by Bill Cavalier aka the Dungeon Bastard, and Jen Page. I'll be presenting a couple of awards, too! Anyway, click on the logo below and VOTE NOW!

    Exclusive Pathfinder Goblin Minimate

Erk Mona sent along this awesome picture of Paizo's preview goblin Minimate! It will be available FREE to folks who purchase $100 or more at the Paizo booth (#203) at this year's Gen Con Indy. It's a preview of the standard goblin that will come in the Pathfinder Minimates Boxed Set (October). This goblin is different than the goblin in the boxed set in that his facial expression is unique, and he has a torch in addition to his dogslicer. They will also release three additional goblin Minimates at the show, which I will be able to show over the next few days.

    • Death to Alignment! is a newbook for Pathfinder designed for gamers dissatisfied with the current morality system. "Death to Alignment not only has the tools every Game Master needs to remove it from their games, but a selection of cool and intriguing new options!"
    • Meet the Shaman from the upcoming Advanced Class Guide. "For many years now, roleplaying games have used the term shaman to mean a lot of different things. Most often, the term is used to describe the spiritual leader of a primitive people or tribe. The shaman would commune with the spirits to beseech them for aid or guidance. The only problem with this was that it did not closely match any of the classes we have in the game. Until now." Click on the picture for more!

    • Paizo recently did something really, really cool. Someone was struggling with the process of coming out as transgender, and they sent along an awesome gift package. It looks like Wes Schneider was the brains behind the plan. The package included a whole bunch of books, some signed, and a personal note.
    • Erik Mona's latest miniatures blog shows off the treacherous Cult of Lamashtu, the Mother of Monsters. As always, click on the image for more!

    • The negative reviews are starting to trickle in. John Dodd wrote a fairly detailed unfavourable comparison between the D&D starter set and the Pathfinder Beginner Box, concluding that "So in the Game of Games, D&D may indeed be Tywin to Pathfinders Tyrion, and both sides will have those that prefer them for different reasons, but in this test, Tyrion has certainly caught Tywin with his pants down..."
    • d20 Monkey previewed the Bard class from the 5E Player's Handbook.
    • According to WotC's Greg Bilsland. here will be no PDF bundled with the 5th Edition core rulebooks or Tyranny of Dragons adventures. That doesn't mean there won't be PDFs of the books at all, just that they won't be bundled with the hardcovers.
