Spontaneous Metamagic

The idea is that you can substitute a metamagic spell for a higher-level prepared spell, but you lose both the higher-level slot and the lower-level spell you modified. You get flexibility at the cost of spells per day.
Quote:
Spontaneous Metamagic
You can quickly apply a metamagic feat to a spell you've prepared, though not especially efficiently.
Prerequisites: At least one metamagic feat, ability to prepare and cast spells.
Benefit: You can apply a metamagic feat to a spell you've prepared as you cast the spell. When you do so, you must expend a prepared spell (of your choice) of the same level as the spell you're casting, modified by the appropriate metamagic feat. (In effect, you're substituting your modified spell for your higher-level prepared spell.) You still expend your prepared spell slot as normal. When you spontaneously apply a metamagic spell with this feat, the casting time is increased (a spell that takes a standard action to cast now takes a full-round action), just as though you were applying a metamagic feat as a spontaneous caster.

For example, a wizard can use this feat to spontaneously apply Empower Spell to a prepared magic missile. When she does so, she expends one of the 3rd-level spells she's prepared in addition to magic missile, and she casts her empowered magic missile as a full-round action.
Balanced? Interesting? Worthwhile?

No, too much. Wizards are very strong as is and even the option to spontaneously apply metamagic is too much IMHO

You're using up two spells to use one metamagicked spell? Doesn't sound too much to me. The wizard in question is burning up higher-level spells, and that's a significant drawback.

I think it's the opposite, a little too much of a drawback for the player. But, that's good, that makes the player cautious.
