Stringburka,
How is your game going? Did you decide to go with 3d6 or 2d10? I am planning to run a game soon with Grim-n-Gritty and I feel the same way; that 1d20 is a bit too wild, I am alternating between 2d10 and 3d6 at this point, all I know is that I won't be using single d20
I'd love to hear how different dice sets affect gameplay and the overall grim-n-gritty feeling of combat.

I'm doing 2d10, and it works great. We tried for a couple of sessions with 3d6, but it meant those trained didn't have a chance, and a slightly stronger opponent lead to far more deadly battles since chance didn't have such a big impact. 2d10 seems just about right in terms of randomness, though it stills disturbs me to use so ugly dice XD

The players are far more careful than in normal D&D, but less scared than in 1d20 G'n'G since it's less risk to be killed by a stray arrow. The rogue of the party keeps away from the enemies, and the two fighters (an elven finesse dual-wielder fighter and a human sword'n'boarder) alternate their tanking.
Generally, they don't pick as many fights and the rogue loves the higher focus on diplomacy and skill. The roles has been more defined in that respects - while the rogue is less able in combat, it's more important in diplomacy and sneaking. 2d10 increases this difference further, since skill ranks is more important now than before.

Taking inspiration from Kenneth Hoods Grim n Gritty system, I've tried to cut out as many pages and extra rules and stats as possible, did a few additions of my own and called it Realismus.

It works with 2d10 and we've been playing with it for some time now. So here it is, perhaps you can use it as a reference or inspiration.

Feel free to use, comment, question, respond or utterly ridicule it...

I also added our Critical Hits variant.

Both documents are in perpetual beta though and I'd really love to hear your feedback (still thinking about using Margin of Success with Touch Attacks to negate Protection, for example)

Chris
