3.5 GRINDHOUSE Classic Adventures

This is a thread for players (3.0-3.5) to post, spit-ball, or talk about the genere of GRINDHOUSE Adventures

what is a GRINDHOUSE Adventure?
A Grindhouse Adventure is an adventure filled with mystery, frequent role-play, fierce action, and the occasional sense of dread...

RAVENLOFT is a Grindhouse Adventure
The 'Fight the Cult' adventure is a Grindhouse
Any adventure where you dont go into a dungeon for a week or two and look for treasure could be Grindhouse...

A good way to see if an adventure is a Grindhouse Adventure or not is simple

Would it be a good movie...
If it has dialog, action, suspense and an obvious ending
its a Grindhouse....
so you can post entire adventures here that you've written that fit into the genere of Grindhouse

Evidently, I've been running Grindhouse Adventures for 25 years and didn't know it.

I don't get the terminology you're trying to coin here.

If it's a portmanteau, the use of the term "house" seems irrelevant and the use of the word "grind" seems to be directly contrary to the typical use of the term.

On the other hand, if you're trying to allude to the extant term "grindhouse" as it applies to movie theaters which featured exploitation films, I don't understand why you're making the allusion. Exploitation films are defined by their promotion of lurid subject matter. None of the characteristics you're using to define "grindhouse adventures" appear to be lurid in the slightest.

by GRINDHOUSE i mean
theater, or movie, or cinematic in a way

a grindhouse adventure is an adventure that has all the basic elements of a good story (refer to the climax mountain you learned in english class) rather then the simple, yet fun, "OPEN DOOR, KILL MONSTERS, TAKE TREASURE" sceneario

grindhouse challenges PCs with roleplay and thinking
not with the CR 13 they just opened the door to

and the terminology im trying to 'coin' comes from that '2-movie' grindhouse
the idea is that the PCs are face with a challenge before they open the door (and no... not a lock or a trap)
they are trying to bring down the cult
save the princess
recover the crown jewels (even though that could be a dungeon crawl)
slay the dragon that attacked the city

have some 'care' about what the PCs are doing in the setting and you get grindhouse

Well, the problem is, every person may have completely different definition on the "all the basic elements of a good story".

So no one can answer your question if you just ask like that.

People may show you some adventures which includes certain elements, or adventures without (or with little of) certain elements.

But "adventure that has all the basic elements of a good story" is too abstract. And while someone regards a certain adventure to be like that, another person may not regard that same adventure meets your definition.

Give the guy a break Its a nice descriptive name he's using to describe his own adventures. Maybe not your name or definition but he's not labeling your games.

You go brother Grindhouse! Sounds like a lot of fun.
