Wounding Pick vs DR, and a grapple question

1) A +1 wounding pick hits a barbed devil, DR/10 good, for 11 hit points of damage. Does the devil take one hp of damage AND the 1 CON damage? What if no 9 HP damage, therefore no hp damage, still CON damage?

2) I see the rule for range attacks into a melee, but what if your monk is grappling someone, and you swing that wounding pick at the enemy being grappled? Yes, victim loses DEX for AC, but must the Pick attacker adjust his to hit in any way, to avoid 'picking' the monk?

thanks!

1. To answer the first part, yes it takes 1 hp dmg and 1 Con dmg. The second part, it takes no damage and 1 Con damage.

2. Melee attacks into a grapple take no pentalties to hit. The defender loses Dex bonus to AC.

Wounding pick . . . I would hate to be on the other end of that when it crits.

1. Pretty sure you need to actually do damage (ie, wound the creature) to get the 1 con damage, though it doesn'tm atter how badly you injure them.

2. By RAW, it's strictly easier to melee attack someone in a grapple, there are no real penalties or risks of hitting your friend. For ranged attacks, your shot has an equal chance of hitting any one of the grapplers, you need to roll a % die. It's not wise to shoot into a grapple without Improved Precise Shot or the Seeking property on your weapon.

Quote:
Whenever damage reduction completely negates the damage from an attack, it also negates most special effects that accompany the attack, such as injury poison and injury disease. Attacks that deal no damage becasue of the target's DR can't distract a creacture from concetrating.
The reason, IMO, that injury poison and injury disease are called out as examples are because DR specifically does not work against poisons or diseases delivered by inhalation, ingestion, or contact.

So per RAW if DR negates the damage then the effect doesn't come into play (unless it is specifically stated otherwise) - so no Con damage if DR negated the attack damage.
