Right, sorry. I read that as talking generically about the ability that rogues get at third level (but generally have throughout their career; that it is not effective for one level is true but I didn't consider it), not specifically as talking about a third level rogue. Rereading it I see that I was wrong.

I'm really enjoying this discussion, everyone. Learning a few things.

Feather Fall, as far as I can tell according to the rules as written, could still be cast when you were surprised. The text says, "You can cast this spell with an instant utterance, quickly enough to save yourself if you unexpectedly fall. Casting the spell is a immediate action, allowing you to cast this spell even when it isn’t your turn." Seems like it is clear that it could be cast when bullrushed off a cliff during a surprise round, to me. It just uses up your swift action from your upcoming turn.

As to traps and what AC they target... I didn't know this (or even think about this) before reading this thread, but the poster(s) advocating that PC's are flat-footed against traps the PC's aren't aware of seem to be right, to me. Once the PC's are aware of the trap, then I believe normal AC should be used.

Good thread!
