Evil caster help

Recently made an evil caster. Gestalt lvl 1 Necromancer / Cleric

I have 500 gp to spend. But have never made a 1st level caster. What is the standard Armor / Cloak that 1st level casters would buy. Mythril CHain is out of the price range. Any advise? I can always just buy the bare minimum for adventuring supplies and then at lvl 2 or 3 hopefully have enough for something good. Any ideas there? Is there something really sweet that is a must have at a little higher level?

Are you concerned about arcane spell failure? If not, chainmail or a breastplate is the way to go, depending on your dexterity.

Might want to save up for later; either mithral (and/or) twilight armor and shield (buckler). Alternatively, eternal wands of mage armor can be quite nice, sadly just out of your price range (820 gp for 2 hours of protection). I'd get something cheap for now, either padded/leather for low arcane spell failure or chainshirt for a little more AC and manageable ASF.

Unfortunately, a mithral buckler seems to be out of your price range, but that would be an ideal choice at low levels as it has no chance of arcane spell failure.

As it is, you're going to be suffering Arcane Spell Failure if you use any sort of armor at all.

With that in mind, I might see if you can get away saving money until you can afford Mithril armor to reduce ASF to at least a mere 5-10%(I'm paranoid and won't use armor if it imposes ASF at all)
