Dungeon Crawl Classics #53 - Sellswords of Punjar Actual Play!

The Gamer's Haven podcast and The Vorpal Network are proud to present, in cooperation with Goodman Games, Dungeon Crawl Classics #53 -- Sellswords of Punjar!

Deep within the heart of the slums, in the rat-ridden city of Punjar, the Beggar-King weaves his plots. Unearthing rites best left forgotten and offering up sacrifices to the loathsome Lords of Shade, the Beggar-King's ambitions threaten to unleash a horde of shadow-horrors upon Punjar's huddled masses.

You and your fellow companions must bring the reign of the Beggar-King to an end. Your quest will take you from the rooftops of Punjar to its filthiest alleys, and beneath the streets of Punjar to the fetid heart of the city, where even the bravest of sellswords will tremble before the fell secrets of the Beggar-King of Punjar.

An introductory adventure designed specifically for first level characters, Sellswords of Punjar is an urban Dungeon Crawl Classic unlike any other. It includes a full-color double-sided battle map to allow your characters to fully experience the perils of Punjar! This stand-alone adventure can also be used to launch a campaign in the epic fantasy world of Áereth.

A new episode will be posted each week until the adventure is completed, and I will be dropping by to let people know that the episode is available!

You can listen to Episode Zero - Character Creation.

You can listen to Episode One - Into the Beggar King's Demense.

You can listen to Episode Two - Trouble Brewing.

You can listen to Episode Three - Did you hear something?.

You can subscribe to the Actual Play Feed.

I am interested in hearing this play out, I really liked the little Punjar gazetteer from Free RPG day, the place reads somewhere between Sanctuary, and City State of the Invincible Overlord, and I am considering running the module.

The character creation cast is way too long, but amusing for all the wrong reasons, mostly for the stereotypes of the players, there's the guy who just won't leave his laptop alone (you hear it boot up at least 3 times) and he won't stop talking about Spore, there is the doormat girl who is all "I'll be be whatever you want, I usually end up playing the cleric, so I guess that's what I like"

It sounds as if they are also playing KotS with the pregens (those terrible, terrible pregens) so while they know how to play, their character creation skills are 0. The DM is super generous in stat rolling (4d6, drop the lowest, reroll 1s, roll 3 sets, and pick one) and one of them still manages to roll badly (I think it is AlwaystheCleric Girl.)

Once gameplay gets underway (cast 2) it goes a bit more smoothly, I would have liked to hear more about the city, instead of let's take an hour to equip ourselves, then boom! here you are in front of the enterance to the dungeon.

I look foward to the next installment.

I listened to the first portion of the adventure, but had to stop listening. It sounded like one of the players was rolling a die in a ceramic bowl right next to the microphone as a fidgety habit or something. It was loud. Any chance this person got a 'talking to' about this after the session? I'd listen in again if this sound wasn't rattling through-out.
