Shift, charge and oportunitty attack

Probably a silly question but we were in doubt last session...

Let's say the Fighter of the group is fighting a normal goblin.

If the Fighter shifts to go out of the goblin's treatened area then charges another goblin without passing any treatened area, the first goblin gains one oportunitty attack against him?

nope. How would he?

btw this is an effective tactic to use against the party's defender. Your player just found a good strategy before you did...

Unless said goblin has threatening reach, and some form of reach weapon, this tactic works -exactly- as described.

Bear in mind tho, a marked goblin will not be as successful at avoiding a fighter's sword due to Combat Challenge (shifts trigger it)
