All PDF Publishers

I could not open the TriStat dX core rules PDF. The error message read, "File damaged, could not be opened". So I trashed that copy and tried downloading it again. But this time, on a whim, I deleted the "goo_" in the file's name. Got the file downloaded and this time opened it with no problems.

I am now trying this same trick with Elements of Magic: Mythic Earth. Will deleting the "_" let me open that file this time?

Whether it works or not I have one simple request for all of you, do not include a "_" in your PDF's file name. Reader 5 will think the file is damaged and will not open it. Remember, no "_" in PDF file names.

Underscores are not usable in PDF file names? I did not know that!

For what I can see, a lot of underscores seep into PDF filenames when the original PDF has spaces in the filename. When uploaded, the server automatically places underscores where the spaces would be.

Underscores are fine in file names for ALL programs.

What might have been the problem here is that there was a space after the goo_, and sometimes (not all the time) a space can be a problem in a file name.

But I have opened a number of pdfs for work where the makers were from old school, where the file name had to be one word, or use underscores, and there has never been an issue.

With underscore file damaged.
Without underscore file opens.

I suspect it has something to do with it being an Acrobat 6 PDF with tons of extra goodies layered in.

You said you redownloaded it and then removed the underscore in the new copy. The new copy probably had much more to do with it than the underscore did.

Try pulling the old, corrupted copy out of your deleted items, and change that underscore to a space. It still will be corrupted.
