Patching a PDF

Malhavoc has put out "upgrade" releases for their products to upgrade a PDF from the 3.0 ruleset to the 3.5 ruleset, or to simply update the content.

I have had absolutely no luck trying to find out how one does such a thing.

Essentially, you have your original PDF. You download an "upgrade". You run the upgrade, your original PDF is now the "updated" PDF.

Does anyone know how to do this?

One way to do it is with a program that detects the changes between file versions and writes a routine to implement the changes when run.

One program that will do this is Clickteam Patch Maker, which I've used successfully for just this purpose (making a PDF patch executable). Not affiliated with Clickteam but can recommend the program (a freeware version, with nag screen, is linked from the product description page below):

If it does, I have no problem paying the $60 for the full version.

Be careful with this, i've tested similar programs in the past, and sometimes the created patch is larger then the updated pdf...
