We started a 4e game of Zeitgeist on Sunday. Three of the players had played in a Zeitgeist game I ran online up until about a year ago, which cut off in the middle of The Dying Skyseer. I enjoy reading the logs of others, so I thought it would be fun to share back.

Our Heroes So Far:

Cazara del Anthra (Razorclaw Shifter Vekeshi Mystic Monk)
A former member of the Executores de la Liberta, Cazara returned to her homeland of Risur in search of her Eladrin girlfriend, who went missing over three years ago. She joined the RHC around three years ago and was partnered with IronPeak. Delft jokingly refers to the two monstrous investigators as his “Brute Squad.”

Hugh Pearsall (Human Spirit Medium Wizard|Shaman Hybrid)
Hugh is in his mid fifties. He has been contacting spirits of the dead for most of his adult life. He works as a professional magician, hyponitist, spirit medium, and has been “RHC Special Consultant to the Dead” for many years.

James M. Chinast (Human Technologist Artificer)
James has lived in Flint all his life. He worked his way up through the factories of Guy Goodson, who found that James had a sharp mind for designing technology. James also designs pyrotechnics for Hugh’s magic shows, and today was his first day on the job at the RHC.

Malkie Vienne (Halfling Docker Vampire)
Malkie is the oldest member of the group, at about 120, but she looks the youngest. She hails from a little-known villa in the Malice Lands, where she died and was reborn. For over a hundred years, she’s been working the underbelly of society, dealing drugs, counterfeiting, and selling out people she knows to the cops. After a long professional relationship as an informant, she finally accepted a full-time position with the RHC.

Monsieur Mort Stark (Tiefling Eschatologist Assassin)
Mort is a special consultant to the RHC from Danor. Stark is a relative of House Soliogn, and is here as their representative in the search for Gale. Stark has a business importing Drakran technology into Flint. This business often takes him through the hazardous Malice Lands, which is where he learned to defend himself so capably with the pistol-sword and pistol-dagger.

Stoatra IronPeak Kalagnas (Goliath Martial Scientist Warden)
IronPeak is a native of Ber, and was a member of a Beran attachment to the Risuri military in the Fourth Yerasol War. She performed well and earned a scholarship to the Battalion after the war ended. Fresh out of the academy three years ago, she joined the RHC around the same time as Cazara. The two were immediately made partners.
The group gathered in Delft’s office on the morning of the christening of the RNS Coaltongue. Delft was nowhere to be seen, but some personnel paperwork has been left on his desk with their names already filled in. (I made up some HR paperwork to get background info on everyone, including at least two relationships with other PCs, and two contacts around Flint, prepping for adventure two.)

we have recently gone from E2 to E3 of the 4E WOTBS campaign.
One thing I included in the contract for the WotBS video game which seemed to vanish off the radar (I haven't heard from them in a couple of years now, so I'm assumig it's vapourware) is that I get to use any art they produce.

And since they produced a bunch of art, and since WotBS RELOADED is underway, I'm going to use it.

Here's the art they produced. There are a few other generic fantasy pieces, but these are the WotBS specific ones. Except for one gorgeous image of Gate Pass which I can't find anywhere but I remember them showing me.

My group had a player join who is running a shifter ranger skyseer. Since I run my game online using Fantasy Grounds, I have a chance to really write some descriptive dreams. I'm curious how other DMs deal with Skyseer questions though. Do you have any special requirements for the questions? Are you douchebaggy when the player asks obscure or broad questions (I have a few times)? Do your dreams tend to by abstract or reality based?

I'd love to see some other DM's Examples of dreams.
Here are a few examples from my most recent session which takes place deep in the Temple from Digging for Lies.

First, a series of visions relating to various PCs' back-stories. I thought it would interesting to give a glimpse into their various histories and fill in some gaps. The first one is about the party's human wizard. The story is that she was originally a hamadryad and was subjected to experimentation.

You see a large glass tube standing against a poorly lit wall. The tube is filled with water and has a vaguely humanoid shape within. Upon closer inspection, the shape seems to have leaves in its hair. As you wipe away a tin layer of fog from the glass surface, you realize you are staring into the face of an ageless Neth. Her eyes spring open, staring back at you in fear shortly before the scene fades to black.

This second vison is about the party's leader, a changeling rogue, who was made an RHC agent at Delft's behest. (For this campaign, I made Delft his grandpa.
You reach out and grasp a set of iron bars with both hands. You are being held captive in some cage or cell. You hear others calling out, signaling that you are not alone. You see a man with a cane and a bad limp working his way down the aisle between cells only to have him stop and stare at you. You glare back at the man, defiantly and realize only too late that this is a slightly younger version of Delft. You glance away to a nearby buck of filth to catch a glance at your reflection only to see that your face is Liam's. You turn back to Delft and he points his cane at you and says, "You will do, boy"

This next vision is of the team's dwarf paladin yerasol vet.
You blink a few times, your vision blurred for a moment. As it clears, you realize you are in the middle of a smoke covered battlefield. You feel as though there should be sound where there is only silence. As you glance around, you see dwarves grabbing weapons from the ground and attempting to slay Tiefling attackers. You look down to see you still have your hammer and shield but your beard has been singed almost back to your chin! You try to stand but have difficulty. Once upright, you pull an arrow from your shield-arm shoulder. You catch a brief glimps of your reflection in the shield of a fallen comrade. Mael's face stares back at you momentarily before you wade back into the fray,

Lastly, I gave the skyseer a very raw look at his own painful past. He had been a slave at one time.
You open your eyes to see a familiar scene. You feel the cold sting of iron manacles and the weeping blood of whip scars across your back. You realize you have been captured and are being flogged by a masked humanoid. With every breath you take, the sharp pains of broken ribs stab at your side and your mouth trickles blood as you struggle for each additional gasp of air. You pray for the vision to end and are eventually blessed with your request. You lose conciousness just as the hooded figure raises his whip to beat you once more...

Here is an example of the skyseer's questions being answered. For reference, they took an extended rest inside the temple on the back side of room 7.
Vikhim: 1: What is in the room below us, besides lasers? 2: Where will the teleportation behind the seal take us? 3: Who's behind the conspiracy?

As you fall asleep for the night, you concentrate on three questions. Many visions swirl through your head until finally three repeat with regularity. The first vision is that of the room beyond the force walls. You see bridges of light flashing on and off as thoughtform creatures trigger various colored stones on the platforms.

The second vision fades into being. You find yourself staring through a tunnel in a wall of the temple. Amidst the tunnel, you see a corpse float by, weightless. On the opposite end of the tunnel, you see what you can only think is the plane of Apet. As you start to enter the tunnel, a pair of double doors close, sealing Apet from your graps but the portal on your side remains open.

The third vision begins to form. You see a number of signet rings laying on a desk. Each ring has a different name but your recognize the first and last names on each ring start with the letters O & B respectively. You see a number of hands, obscured by shadow reach out to retrieve the rings one by one. Finally, the last hand reaches for the final ring. Although you feel this ring is not the most important, it is the only one your truly recognize. It belongs to Lady Saxby herself.

THIS THREAD WILL CONTAIN RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS OF SPOILERS.

As part of the process of converting WOTBS to Pathfinder I needed a test group to run through sections of the modules. Not the whole adventure, portions that need playtesting such as :traps, combat, some RP encounters.

My gaming group which I have been a player and a DM for the last 20 years has agreed to assist me in this . They are by and large a good blend of MinMax Power Gamers and Roleplayers. Plot is important but so is power and conquest.

In order to balance the conversion I have to accept a few Known Unknowns about gaming groups in general:

Not every group is going to have access to the internet and every Paizo book.

Not every group is going to have MinMax types

This may be their first module they have ever played in.

Not every group is comprised of Good aligned PCs

As such I have established rules for the Playtest as follows:

Rulebooks allowed: APG and PF Core

Point Buy System: 25 (epic/high fantasy)

Alignment: Must be Good Aligned

Races: No Half-Orcs

Level: 2 1st level characters each

By limiting the gaming books allowed to Core Rulebook and APG for PC creation this simplifies the amount of crazy material I have to prepare for.

Point buy skews attributes into the PCs favor giving them an easier time at first few levels and providing a more heroic playthrough. WOTBS is not easy by any stretch of the means so let the Players be Hero's.

Alignement focuses the group on "Doing the Right thing" which is what this module is about. I originally thought I could do this as an evil campaign but my players would immediately kill everyone and keep the torch for themselves and more than likely unite with Leska at the end.

Race limitation is to prevent conflicts with other groups that they will end up meeting. The fact that I make each of my players play 2 characters gives me enough wiggle room to have them swap PC's in and out as the need arises and if one of their PC's dies (which happens quite a bit) they have no downtime. This does limit treasure distribution a bit, but that is outside the scope of this test.

3/6 PC's created:

Half-Elf Invulernable Rager Barbarian
Human Paladain Warrior of the Holy Light
Human Arcane Duelist

I think I've got my head around the effects of the lamp, but let me just ask:

If a PC enters or peers into the depot building, the only person they will see is Lya Jierre?
Or is she in the Bleak Gate until she steps out?
In the former case, what's to stop the PCs rushing the depot and taking out Lya before the lantern is even lit?

In the latter - what's to stop them entering the depot (which to all intents and purposes will appear empty) and being revealed only by the lantern?
