In case you are wondering, here is the box quote for Nights Black Agents:

Quote:

The Cold War is over. Bush’s War is winding down.

You were a shadowy soldier in those fights, trained to move through the secret world: deniable and deadly.

Then you got out, or you got shut out, or you got burned out. You didn’t come in from the cold. Instead, you found your own entrances into Europe’s clandestine networks of power and crime. You did a few ops, and you asked even fewer questions. Who gave you that job in Prague? Who paid for your silence in that Swiss account? You told yourself it didn’t matter.

It turned out to matter a lot. Because it turned out you were working for vampires.

Vampires exist. What can they do? Who do they own? Where is safe? You don’t know those answers yet. So you’d better start asking questions. You have to trace the bloodsuckers’ operations, penetrate their networks, follow their trail, and target their weak points. Because if you don’t hunt them, they will hunt you. And they will kill you.

If you are asking yourself, "Am I signing up for James Bond vs Dracula", you would be right.
Characters
On the Nights Black Agents page over at Pelgrane Press, there is a set of pre-generated PCs. We will be using those with one important caveat. The stats will be kept the same, however, I would like people to feel free to re-skin the details, backstory, etc should they desire. However, the current crop of PCs have integrated backstories...

Posting rate
I will endeavor to post at least once a day, and will try to go faster if you guys manage it. Weekends, OTOH, are pretty busy and computer time is limited most of the time, especially with the summer coming up.

Since I absolutely love Pathfinder yet do not have the time to start yet another tabletop campaign, I will make the attempt here.

I myself have some experience running PbP games, mostly over at Atomicthinktank where I run several M&M games.

What will this game be about?
Orcs. Undead. Traps. Orcs. Dark and forgotten gods. Zon-Kuthon. Orcs. Bloody Bones. And a bunch of other things I have not mentioned yet. Oh, and Orcs.

The first adventure would be " Crypt of the Everflame" from Paizo, since it makes a fantastic starting point for characters. After that, I have plans...

Basic premise is that the characters are the most promising youths from Kassen, a village in the north of Nirmathas. All start as level 1, with a mentor in the town, which I will detail if there is enough interest.
I will allow all base classes from the official Paizo books (Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic, PHB and the Advanced Player's Handbook). With races, I will stick to the ones in the PHB.

If you can post daily, that would be perfect, every other day would also be fine, but no less than that, if possible.

Dice rolling would happen at invisiblecastle.
Please let me know if there is any interest.

Q’barra. New Galifer. The frontier of Khorvaire. Settled by refugees and pirates fleeing the Last War, life here has remained a harsh existence on the literal edge of civilization. Dinosaurs, lizardfolk and worse lurk in the jungles, but that is not enough to deter the afraid, the idealistic and the greedy. With the discovery of rich veins of dragonshards in the swamps, the dragonmarked houses descend upon the fledgling nation. Today, they all have some presence in the capital of Newthrone, but sometimes they are unwilling to send their valuable marked heirs into the depths, especially into the lawless region of Hope.

Drellin’s Ferry lies just on the edge of this region and is the southernmost extent of New Galifer. House Orien has several deliveries that need to be made to this region, but they are unwilling to order family members risk the lives and talents. As a result, they have recruited a group of five mercenaries to make the trek instead, tasking each with a package to deliver. You are one of these mercenaries.

Setting: Eberron
System: Pathfinder
Level: 5th
Players: Five
The Plan: I’ve lurked on EnWorld for a while, but following the Kickstarter, I’ve decided to be a more active participant. Curse of the Cold Sun is a version of The Red Hand of Doom that has been adapted to Eberron. I would like to carry the campaign beyond the end of the adventure itself, but that obviously depends on people’s interest. This will be more a regional game, so you likely will not leave Q’barra until after the adventure concludes.

Races: Any of the standard seven and Eberron races are allowed. Goblin characters are also allowed (encouraged even!) but their background must be “city” goblins. Kalashtar and Changelings add +2 to any one attribute, while warforged no longer suffer the penalty to wisdom. For shifter changes, see the stat block below.

SHIFTER TRAITS

+2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom, –2 Charisma: Shifters are agile and perceptive, but also bestial.

Medium: Shifters are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.

Normal Speed: Shifters have a base speed of 30 feet.

Low-Light Vision: Shifters can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.

Animal Prowess: Shifters receive a +2 racial bonus on Acrobatics and Climb checks.

Shifting (Su): A shifter can tap into his lycanthropic heritage to gain short bursts of physical power. Each shifter has one of ten shifter traits—characteristics that manifest themselves when a character is shifting. Each shifter trait typically provides a +2 bonus to one of the character’s physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution) and grants some other advantage as well. Shifter traits are described in the following section.

Shifting is a free action and can last for a number of rounds equal to 4 + the shifter’s Constitution modifier. Temporary increases to Constitution such as those gained from bear's endurance do not increase the total number of rounds that a shifter can maintain shifting per day. A shifter can take feats to improve this ability. These shifter feats are described in the Eberron Campaign Setting and Races of Eberron.

Every shifter feat a character takes increases the duration of his shifting by 2 rounds. So, a character with two shifter feats can shift for a number of rounds equal to 8 (instead of 4) + the shifter’s Con modifier.

Shifting, though related to and developed from lycanthropy, is neither an affliction nor a curse. It is not passed on by bite or claw attacks, and a shifter can’t be cured—shifting is a natural ability for the race.

Classes: Any pathfinder class. Please note that while I allow gunslingers in Eberron, they are extremely rare, not at all organized and thought to be slightly crazy since magic is far more reliable than gunpowder from the average person’s POV. Classes from other sources, particularly WotC, will be apprised on an individual basis. Psionics from DSP are also allowed if they fit the character’s background.
Traits: Everyone gets two.
Ability Scores: Generate using 20 point buy
HP: Full at first level, then half+1 at each level afterwards.
Starting gold: 10500 galifers
Alignment: Any non-evil.
Background: Doesn’t need to be huge, but it does need to include what the package you are carrying is and who in Drellin’s Ferry you will be delivering it to. I will provide a list of potential recipients below. I’d also appreciate it if you could give me two goals: One that your PC has have for her/himself and one that you have for your character or the game.

People in Drellin’s Ferry

Avarthel: A halfling mask weaver adept from the Talenta Plains, Avarthel has settled in Drellin’s Ferry to study the abundant wildlife in hopes of helping reinvigorate the dinosaur populations of the Plains.

Delora d’Zann: A marked member of House Vadalis, d’Zann has managed a small stable in the Ferry since retiring from the fields of the Last War some 20 years ago.

Brother Derny: The local priest of the Soverign Host, Derny is pompous and old, but is also known for his charity. Derny also billets two adepts from House Jorasco, Jor and her brother Taman, as both are also training to become part of the priesthood. The two conduct House business in the town square as opposed to the shrine.

Iormel: A stubborn member of the town council who is the decedent of the original New Galifer settlers. Although he is not officially a noble, he is very wealthy and expects to be treated like royalty.

Jarett Nurth: The owner of the general store, Jarett’s family was originally displaced from their home when the goblins seized control of Darguun

Kellin d’Ghallanda: One of the local inn keepers, Kellin runs the Old Bridge Inn on the behalf of the House with his own large family of a dozen.

Morlin the Coalhewer: The town’s blacksmith, the burly dwarf has a gift for working with both metals and crystals.

Norro ir’Wiston: The current elected Speaker of the town, Norro’s family owns much of the land that the town is built upon, but they still have reputation for being hard and honest workers.

Sertieren Ambrin: A member of the Fabricator’s Guild, Sertieren is not a member of house Cannith, but is a talented magwright.

Soranna Anitah The captain of the guard was born in Drellin’s Ferry, but her parents actually has blood connections to House Tharashk. As far as anyone knows she hasn’t manifested a dragonmark and prefers small town life to big business.

Tharrma Breaker: The owner of the local watering hole, The Green Apple is cheaper than the Old Bridge, so many residents do their drinking here, but some find Tharrma’s gift at expressing her opinion unbearable.

What i hate is DMs with wavering confidence in their ability to run games. These kids .... if I get 4+ players, I'll introduce my house-rules that enhance character capabilities within the BoL system.

I'm all about player capability.

This game happens only because my TOotS (The Order or the Stick) site is down. Thank thine whatever patron cosmic anomaly. I'll give it 4 days & decide then, based on interest.

So I just read Dungeon World, and it blew my mind. Now I want to try and run it. Alot of the system is about improvisation, and it is very map light. It is a perfect match for my preferred style of Pbp.
Its like AD&D, but with lots of good game mastering advice coded into the rules. Online rules here its also based on a game called Apocalypse world, which is slightly older.

As a warning this game will not run all that long, and will prolly take some kind of break when I move in early June.

Classes: Bard, cleric, druid, fighter, paladin, ranger, thief, wizard. Some have race options.
Stats 3-18, use the starting array, level 1. Planning for level 4 or higher seems very optimistic
Looking for 4-6 players, who are willing to collaborate on an adventure.

This is from the section on a Dungeonworld DM's Agenda:
•	Portray a fantastic world
•	Fill the characters’ lives with adventure
•	Play to find out what happens

My basic setting starts in the aftermath (less than a year) of a war against a lich and his undead hordes.
The forces of the living won, but not completely. The rest of the setting and story will be worked out in collaboration.

Greetings all. I have been running a slow and leisurely PbP, the beginning of which can be seen here:

OOC: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthr...Core-4th-Ed%29
IC: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthr...mp-W-4th-ed%29

I've been enjoying it, but there's been a bit of a push and pull between the campaign being mostly Dungeon crawls (the original goal) and a bit more open with intrigue and mysteries. As such, I think I want to create two groups in the campaign world. These are the:

Dungeon Delvers (4-5 players)
Whatever Seems Interesting (2-3 players)

Characters will not be required to stay in their initial group, and they may band together (or perhaps even work at cross purposes at some points).

Character generation rules can be found in the OOC thread, but basically are the classes from Swords and Wizardry, 4th edition (not the 'Complete' rules), The basic rules for character generation are in post #2.

If you're interested, post here first and say which group you want to join. I'll note that there's likely only room for one player in the WSI group as we have one Elf, and a Dwarven Cleric. If you're willing to take over a former player's PC, there's a Fighter called Stellan who has been basically NPCed since the start and would be in the WSI group.

We have a Halfling in the Dungeon Delvers group.

One other complication is that we also have a Human Cleric who may not be returning, but if he does I'm not sure which group he will prefer. For now I will fill slots and assume he won't be coming back, but will then let him decide where he wants to go.

If you aren't sure whether you would like this campaign, my basic philosophy is old school. Dice are not fudged. If your character dies, well, it's a decent sized town and there are probably other adventuring types willing to join in (in other words, you can roll up a new character). My combat style is fairly loose. You tell me what you want to do, I tell you when it happens and what happens based on your die rolls (using the S&W combat rules of course). If you read through the two IC threads, you can get an idea of how things have gone previously...

I will hold this open until May 1st, and hopefully the campaign will continue with new players then!

Alright, so unfortunately, my SCI FI game didn't garner enough interest, so I'm going to be trying something else instead :
Who likes WOD?

New World of Darkness & Vampire:Requiem specifically.. though really, still calling it 'new' when it's been out for almost a Decade is rather amusing..

Anyways, I have a setting in mind, and I'd like to get some prospective player feedback before I post too much detail about what's happening.

If I can find players that are willing and able, I'd PREFER to try the game as follows:

Player Driven

This is a style of game that I've tried several times in the past - and will continue trying until it works - that I've come to think perhaps could work in WoD.

I love the idea of a mostly player-driven story with a reactive GM/Storyteller. Essentially I would set up the setting, NPC's, etc, and instead of telling you guys "This is your goal, these are the ways you can achieve it", I ask you "What's your goal and how are you going to achieve it?"

I think that in a Vampire game it will work out better, what with the scheming and plotting that is inherent to the system.
This type of story, however, would REQUIRE that all the Players are proactive and have plans, goals, machinations for their characters. Nobody'll get anything out of the game if they wait for stuff to happen.

Now, of course that's not to say that the PC's are the ONLY people doing anything. NPC's have their own plans, but the driving force of the campaign would be the PC's actions. If you sit at home and wait for something to happen.. it probably won't.

If people don't want to do that, though, the more standard game style is possible. What I want to know right away is if there are any players who wish to try the more player driven chronicle.

Either way, Both games would be the same setting and similar overall stories (Though obviously with differences due to Player driven vs NPC driven story threads).

Setting Info

Welcome to Las Sangrienta, home to 5 million humans, and over a thousand vampires - the largest collection of bloodsuckers in the world, due in large part to the massive tourist travel in the city.
*Las Sangrienta is basically a Los Angeles/Las Vegas mashup. It is a coastal city, with lots of shipping traffic, an international airport, Film-making enterprise, large casinos, and 50 Million tourists a year.*

Brief History: in the late 19th century a coterie of vampires set up in a town east of Los Angeles, and due in no small part to their machinations, the city of Las Sangrienta became a booming metropolis over the early 20th century. By 1910, not only had the city grown to include the nearby Los Angeles and Hollywood, but there were several large movie companies operating in the city. By the 20's, most of the world's film industry was concentrated in L.S. In 1931, the population passed its first million, and with the legalization of gambling that same year, popularized Casino Hotels to further cement its hold over Soutern California.

By the start of world war 2, the city had become inundated with the undead, and the original coterie was having trouble holding their territory. By the time WW2 had ended, the vampiric 'War of Blood' was just hitting its peak, with over a hundred kindred (And many more human servants) dead. In the end a truce was forged, with the only three remaining members of the original coterie ceding much of their territory but maintaining Nominal control over the region.
Jemal Priscus of the Ventrue being reaffirmed as Prince, with the leader of each of the other factions forming his Primogen council.
Since then, the city has continued to grow as any Kindred dominated city might.

The PC's themselves would be Up-and-Coming vampires who've either been around for several years, or had connections/resources/knowledge in their lives that they've managed to retain in Unlife. Whether they're new to the city or were sired here a decade ago is players choice.
Character rules will be standard starting with 50 XP. Please ask about anything that's usually optional or may be controversial. Also, I'd prefer concepts at first rather than full fledge characters, I'm just posting the stats so people can start planning.

What I want from you all right now is threefold:
A) Interest,
B) whether you're good for the Player Driven Campaign or would be more comfortable with a more standard campaign, and
C) Basic Character concept.

Will post up more details on what's going on when I've gotten some replies.

Recruiting? We may have an open spot or two. Chime in if you are interested.

Who is Thondor?
I am the designer of Superheroes Unleashed. I’ve been around ENworld for a while, and played in a few PbP games here and even run one (briefly).
What is Superheroes Unleashed?
A structured free-form Superhero Game in Pre-release.
You can download The Heart of Simple Superheroes for free which lays out the majority of the rules of the game.
If your keen and interested in supporting development you can purchase ISSUE 0, a pre-release version of the game. Purchasing the game is not required to play.

What are the Assumptions for this Play-by-Post?

Your character will be a City-level hero. Meaning he can have pretty wacky powers, but there will be notable limitations.

A friendly, bantering, not particularly high rea lism game. Your costumed heroes out to foil the villains diabolical plot ‘nuff said.

All players are on a Team. Team name TBD.

Scenario’s/Issues will be short. I’m hoping to have a short quickly resolved story or two. Hopefully this will fit in well with the drop-in drop-out nature of PbP.

The Universe: Post-War - Artifice City

I've outlined the answers to the questions. At this point I am open to feedback and suggestions.

Spinning a Universe questions:

1. How long have there been people with superhuman powers?
- Since the close of WWII. At least this is the commonly held belief.

2. Did and does the emergence of people with powers meaningfully affect the world?
- Not a lot. The main result has been creating one more thing for the news to report about. Heroes are pretty well balanced by villains.

3. Will the events of the story that will be told significantly change the status quo or do things mostly return to normal between story arcs?
- The status quo returns at the close of story-arcs.

4. Who was the first superpowered individual? Are they still around?

5. Is there a dominant source of powers, or banned sources?
- The Enhanced Soldier program (Project 33) or its ‘spin-offs' is a common source.
- All sources are welcome.

6. Does any of the following exist, and if so how prevalent is their presence and are they known to the public?
- Aliens: unknown
- Other dimensions/planes: unlikely.
- Alternate realities and alternate Universes: unknown.
- Time travel: No. (Not this time :).)
- Real pre-cognition or post-cognition: Yes, though it is not widely known.

7. How does the media and government treat those with powers? Are they even aware of meta-humans?
- The government mostly ignores meta-humans. The media regard heroes with a bit of awe.

8. How prevalent are super-powered individuals in the developing world?
- irrelevant all conflict will be home-grown.

9. Does the Universe use real cities and geographies or fictional locations?
- The Universe is primarily set in Artifice City. A name that embodies the booming and innovation of the 1950's with the possibility of deception.

10. What are the Moods, themes and levels of realism?
- Cheesy Plans, Monologues, fairly low ‘realism.'

11. Do people die? And stay that way?
- It can happen, but is rare.

12. How do powers affect national and international politics?
- We could introduce Communism into the mix here, but I think we won't really focus on it. Unless someone is keen?

13. How does all the collateral damage from superhuman battles get repaired? Who foots the bill and how do they keep up with the work?
- In this booming economy? No problem.

14. When is the story set?
- 1950's

15. What other things besides being a criminal or hero do superpowered humans use their powers for?
- People with powers wear costumes. They either fight the good fight or the bad one, ‘nuff said.

16. How did the heroes (the player characters) come together
- To be Determined.

Character Creation
This is outlined in detail in Heart of Simple Superheroes.
Note that making your character should feel like Brainstorming. I’ll probably discuss at least a few points for each players character to make sure we are on the same page.

Example Characters:
There are two example characters on the website; and a couple more in the forum.
Below is a straightforward example formatted appropriately.

Pacifier

Example character using Standard array

Pacifier
Identity: Gregory Barnes

Talents
Accurracy: 2- quick-silver blows [O]
Mobility: 2- quick-silver step [F]
Toughness: 4- titanium body [D], 2- larger than life [F]
Might: 4- iron blows [O], 3- strength of iron [F]
Brains: 3- diamond mind [D]
Senses:

Superpower Finesse: 2- strong, 2- fast, 2- resilient

Weakness: Made of metal.

Lifepoints: 7
Strainpoints: 6

Relations: 2- Mandy (gf), 2- Truth, 1- Ted's sports bar

Now the above is all that is really needed to play Pacifier. However, some discussion "with the GM" is warranted.

Description of Talents:

Quicksilver Blows (accuracy -2): Pacifier can stike fast with accuracy. While his "iron blows" is more potent, he might use this in combat to try and smash something, grab something or similar actions requiring precision.

Quicksilver Step (mobility - 2): Pacifier is fast. He could have just as easily called this talent "run."

Titanium Body (toughness - 4): Pacifier's body is completely metallic making him highly resilient to physical trauma.
Note that this does not protect him from a large number of attacks including energy (things like acid, fire, cold, lightning), magic, mind-effecting, or anything that simply needs to touch him like a net.

Larger Than Life (2- toughness): This gives Pacifier an extra positive Lifepoint and an extra negative Lifepoint. His negative 1 repeats.

Iron Blows (4- might): Pacifier hits with impressive force. He can use it to smash foes, walls and even steel (his Titanium Body keeps him from hurting himself).

Strength of Iron (3- might): Pacifier is inhumanly strong. He uses this Talent to lift bend and twist, really anything where raw strength is called for. He can easily lift a motorcycle.
Note that without this Talent Pacifier would not be any stronger than an average human.

Diamond Mind (3- brains): Pacifier knows and protects his own mind. This protects him from all sorts of mind-affecting Talents, including persuasion, mind-control and fear.

Personality and Background
This is where a player writes about the characters origin, motives, interests, personality

Character Creation Tips:

First find a hero and power concept.

Defenses: There are a lot of forms of defenses. You won’t have enough Talents to defend from all kinds of attack. That’s what friends are for.

Usually specific Talents trumps generic ones

Talents are meant to be narrow - a single ‘fire’ talent does not give you ultimate control over fire. In fact if you only have one fire Talent you may not be able to light a cigarette, instead you might light your head on fire.

The above is why Superpower Finesse is good.

Spending Strainpoints and pooling Talents are you friends.

Combat Example:

This is to illustrate how the die mechanics work.

A gunman attacks Pacifier. The gunman gets 2 d6. Pacifier uses his Titanium body to resist, which is rank 4, giving him 4 d6.

Gunman's Attack

Pacifier's Titanium body vs gunmanPacifier's Titanium body vs gunman
1d6;1d6;1d6;1d6 → [5] = (5)
1d6;1d6;1d6;1d6 → [6] = (6)
1d6;1d6;1d6;1d6 → [5] = (5)

2's and 1's are completely ignored. 3's and above are considered basic sucesses.
The highest die of each contestant is compared. Then the next highest etc.

The Gunman's 3 does not exceed Pacifier's 6, so the bullet deflects harmlessly off his steel flesh.

------------Some new details

Talents Intent

The 'letters' next to the Talents are the talents Intent. The standard intents are as follows:
Offensive [O]
Defensive [D]
Functional [F]
Reactive [R] - reactive Talents respond to a Trigger, allowing the character to cause something to happen 'out-of-sequence'. The Trigger by definition should be narrow.

Non-standard Intents:
Time [T]
Potency [P]
Hard-Tech [H]

Time and Potency are often used for characters like Yarko the Great who can 'cast any spell' or gadgeter characters who can 'build anything.' Its also how you can handle a green-lantern type concept.

Hard-Tech is an additional designation. A Talent will have one of the 'standard' intents as well as the Hard-tech intent eg [FH]. Hard-tech Talents cannot be pushed by Strainpoints and are more likely to be damaged or malfunction. They do however have one situation where they excel; such as body-armor being especially good at blocking bullets. In this one situation they gain a rank/die.

Defenses

Generally speaking there are several forms of defenses that don't overlap.

Physical resilience

'Energy' resilience

Mental resilience

Dodging

Magic resilience

Minor overlaps in the above are possible, but it wouldn't cover all cases. You might have 'arcane shield' that protects against magic and mental control, but doesn't protect against persuasion, intimidation, and fear.

CornerCases

There is also a whole bunch of cornercases, or odd situations that a character might not be protected from.
Sonic, gases, injections or intoxicants, being blinded, and probably a few other things I can't think of.
Usually a hero can be effectively immune to a cornercase if they have a rank 3 talent that would protect them. Having 3- sonar makes a character effectively immune to blindness.

'Narrowness' of offensive Talent example

We'll start with a one shot wonder, someone with a single powerful Talent. Let's call this character Bob.

Bob v1
Might 5- Telekinetic Blow [O]

Now Bobv1 can hit things with a massive amount of force with his telekinesis. It is an almost instinctual blast of power that is over a very short (close) distance. He tends to make dramatic hand gestures (like punching the air) when he does so. He can smash large objects with it (like doors).

What can't Bobv1 do?
He can't hit a small target with it.
He can't hit someone who is far away or deliberately keeping their distance.
He would probably hit both people in a grapple.
He can't lift things. (He can only knock them over or break them.)
He cannot lift himself into the air.
He can't defend himself at all.

In short he has no Finesse.

So ... Let's add a few Talents

Bob v2
Accuracy 3- Telekinetic Manipulation [F]
Mobility 2- Telekinetic Stability [F]
Might 5- Telekinetic Blow [O]

Telekinetic manipulation gives Bobv2 the the ability to pick up small objects, or flip a switch across the room, or pull a gun out of someone's hand (if he's lucky).
It also makes him a little more flexible with his Telekinetic blow, he should be able to effect things slightly further away from him.

Telekinetic Stability is used to 'push off' of surfaces to keep Bobv2 light on his feet. he might aslo try to break his fall using this Talent. If he advanced this Talent further he might be able to levitate.

So how about the restrictions on Telekinetic Blow? They are still largely the same, but a Game Master 'Judge' should be a little more lenient since Bobv2 has several Telekinetic Talents, meaning that he has 'Finesse'.

Some notes:
1 - I have never DMed anything before face to face, let alone pbp. So keep that in mind as I am likely to make mistakes. Players who accept that *and* are willing to offer suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
2 - I have yet to receive the book (deliver faster Mr Mailman!!). As soon as I get it, there will be some time required for me to read it and digest it. Probably a couple of weeks.
3 - It would be one of the pre-made adventures that are available.

This is a setting I've been rolling around in my head for a while, and I've got a short scenario I want to test it with (no epic campaigns this time, but if it starts well I've got material to continue it).

The idea is a game set in the real world ca. 600AD, but one where everything written by Geoffrey of Monmouth, Bede, the Beowulf poet and the compilers of the Mabinogion and the Nibelunglied is true. It's a world where Christian missionaries strive to drive out the old gods, faced with a hostile land of demons and monsters, where the Britons, one hundred years after the death of Arthur, are facing the threat of the Anglo-Saxons, where the Western Roman Empire has long since been carved up by Goths, Huns and Vandals but lives on in the Eastern Roman Empire in the shining city of Constantinople.

The game starts on the borders between the Welsh kingdom of Powys and the Saxon kingdom of Mercia. Characters are men and women in the loyal service of Llewllyn ap Rhys, Lord of Trefaldwyn - loyal because they are honourable, loyal because they are related to the Lord, or merely loyal as long as they are paid, any motivation you wish.

The Crunchy stuff -

Pathfinder, 15 point buy.
Any core class except monk and paladin is acceptable. Any core race is acceptable, although "orcs" are not a race in this setting, so a half-orc would be known as a half-troll, half-goblin or some such. Average starting gold for equipment. Some non-standard races might fit, ask if there's something you really want.

Fighters, rogues, and rangers could be anything. Wizards and sorcerers would not be distinguished by most people. Barbarians would likely be Pictish or Norse mercenaries, although there's no reason they couldn't be Celtic or Saxon warriors either.
Bards and Druids, of course, stem from Welsh culture and are a good fit, although the old druidic faith is in decline (The Romano-Celts who have developed into the Welsh have been Christianised for some time). The druids are mainly found on their island Ynys Mon, but some would exist.

Clerics and Religion
The Welsh are largely Christian, but the Saxons still largely follow their pagan gods such as Woden, Tiw and Thunar, Teutonic version of the Norse gods Odin, Tyr and Thor. They also venerate nature, as do some Celts still, particularly sacred trees and pools, the sun and the moon. Pope Gregory has sent Augustine, Archbishop of Canterbury, to be his emissary in the British Isles and bring Christianity to the Anglo-Saxons.

This era is before the crusading cleric of later mediavel history - the typical Christian cleric is a humble missionary (Dewi, aka St. David, a companion of Arthur, established a monastic tradition in the kingdoms of Wales). Christian clerics use d6 hit die and a poor BAB, but have a base 6 skill points instead of 2. They may select from the domains of Community, Glory, Good, Healing, Knowledge, Liberation, Nobility, Protection, Repose (Pharasma version), and Sun. They may also select the Love subdomain of Charm (but not Charm itself or (Heaven forfend!) Lust. All other subdomains of the above domains are allowed, apart from the Ancestors domain of Repose (smacks of paganism).

For pagan clerics, Domain choices should be fairly easy to work out from similar deities already published.

Disclaimers
It shouldn't be necessary to have an in-depth knowledge of the 6th-7th century history, politics and theology, nor to speak Welsh, in order to play the game, although even a passing interest in such things means you are more likely to get something out of the game. Further, although the game uses real-world faiths I'm not in the business of passing judgement on anyone's religion, nor trying to promote one.

Hey En World! Long time no see!

As a result of the upcoming new Dragonball Z movie rousing me from my slumber I'm happy to announce that I am looking for players to join in a game of the recently released Shonen Final Burst.

For those of you who don't know (which is likely most if not all of you), Shonen Final Burst is a small Indie game released earlier this year that seeks to emulate many of the standard tropes of Shonen anime (Such as Dragonball, Bleach, Naruto and so forth) in the same way that Mutants and Masterminds has done for the comic book scene. In my opinion it is an absolute success at that goal, building a fundamentally sound system that allows for quick, interesting and tactical combat, while at the same time relying on Mutants and Masterminds style 'reskinning' to avoid the massive bloat that plagues systems that try and cling too close to the source material.

With all that said I am looking for a group of no less than three and no more than five players to undertake what amounts to a playtest with me. I have yet to decide on a particular setting, but given the way I am trending at the moment it would be best to describe it as... dragonball-esque. It will have a heavy focus on martial arts (preferably hand to hand but I am quite flexible in this regard), tournament fighting and adventure. If people want to keep to a specific setting I can probably be convinced, otherwise we'll go with something new but flavorful.

Characters will be started at first level, but that does not mean they are necessarily weak within the system. Shonen Final Burst uses the anime concept of Cyclical Power, the next big bad guy is always the strongest thing they've ever faced. Players actually get reset down to the starting level after each major arc, keeping minor perks to show their progress while the pinacle of power from the last arc becomes the sort of baseline of the new one (Re: Super Saiyan kids). I imagine characters to be well respected martial artists, though nowhere near the top of the world.

The basic rules for the system can be found here. Players who are interested in the setting or the rules system can contact me through PM or at my E-Mail. I'll give it a week or so to gather enough players and get everybody set up with their characters.
