About us & the campaign:
I run published adventures (a lot of converted older editions) but I tweak them to fit our game. I can also run solo quests for players that want to play one. I use story twists, romance, some vileness, humor, traps/puzzles, unique NPC's. I try to include all forms of adventures taking place in all forms of environments. I love variety!
Here is what our group looks like:
DM - me, 32 y/o – 10 years on & off DM’ing/player experience
Player 1 (Half-Elf Sorceress7/Fiend Blooded5) – 27 y/o (my wife that gets no special treatment from me)
Player 2 (Elf Ranger7/Fighter2/Wildrunner1) - 31 y/o
Player 3 (Human Cleric5/Dracolyte2) – 32 y/o (been playing D&D for 5 months & wanted to start lower level)
We may start a new campaign at level 1 and use the races & classes from the Pathfinder edition in place of the 3.5 core races & classes. Everything else would be regular 3.5 rules.
We are all very down to earth no-nonsense people. We like to laugh and joke about everything and we are the type that can easily get along with other fun & friendly people.
Things that I don’t allow that might be a concern to you:
- I am not a big fan of players using accented voices or playing a gender different than their own (it comes off more distracting to me than interesting).
- No goofy & silly real-world character names (including pets). If the name would make people cringe when hearing it in something like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars, then our group probably won’t want to hear it either.
- I give out half xp to slow down level progression so you have more time to develop the character in more ways than just leveling.
- There are no real magic item shops in the campaign & I am pretty restricting about players choosing magic items for new PCs. I try to provide players with what they need & what they'd like, but I also try to keep the appearance that magic items are rare and special.
The things I do allow that hopefully make up for the things I don't allow:
- There are alchemist shops for potions, & priests/merchants who sell scrolls.
- I allow about 35 additional PC races in addition to the core races.
- I give roleplaying XP if a player did something memorable & adventure completion XP.
- All classes, PrCs, & Feats from
WotC books are available unless I find out it’s broken.
- Spell Compendium spells are available & I use the Magic Item Compendium items as treasure.
- I play non-intrusive background music. It really seems to liven things up.
- Rolling a natural 20 for threat and then rolling another 20 for critical allows you to do maximum damage PC could possibly do from that attack.
- Constitution score determines how far below 0 you can be unconscious before dying instead of just -10 (-10 is minimum)
- Pay XP to eliminate a PCs Level Adjustment. Due to the way XP is figured, a PC with a level adjustment can eventually earn a class level in place of the level adjustment & be the same level as other PCs with no more LA.
