How this Forum Works

So here's how this forum works, blatantly copied from P-Cat’s excellent description 2 years ago, and The Universe's version from last year:

GM's will start a thread for each game they wish to run. The thread title should include at least a name to call the game and the day and time you wish to run it. So your thread title might look like this:

Sky Galleons of Mars - d20 Modern - Thursday 4:00 PM

In the thread your first post can include whatever description you want to post of the game. It could be one line. It might be several paragraphs of background. It might include a list of pre-gen characters. It might even include links to documents for the game. Whatever you like.

At some point people will come into your thread and start looking to sign up for your game. How and who is selected for each game is entirely up to the GM. You can just take whoever comes first. You can set a date and time on which signup will start and take whoever signs up first after that. You can pick and choose. You can draw names out of a hat. Whatever floats your boat.

Eventually you should add a list of what slots are available for your game and who is currently playing in it to your first post. If you want to copy this one then feel free. Just so long as it's fairly easily identified by somebody wanting to play your game:

slot 1: Cthulhu's Librarian
slot 2: Queen D
slot 3: The Universe
slot 4: Reveal
slot 5: Old One
slot 6: OPEN

See how I made the OPEN slot red? Feel free to do that if you'd like to attract attention to the fact that there's still open space in your games.

Once a few game threads are up, the forum moderator The Universe is going to come in here and post a thread in which the first post will include a full schedule, in chronological order, of all games that have been posted thus far. To help him with this we may ask that you post a link to your thread in her schedule thread. We'll go by whatever he wants to do in this regard.

Finally a general word on games and them being full or not:

I expect that, like the last two years, this schedule will be fairly fluid until we get down to the last week or so before GenCon. If you didn't get into a game you want to play, consider subscribing to the thread. People will undoubtedly sign up for games and then later have to drop out. It happened a lot last year and it will happen a lot this year.

Also, if you're a GM, you might find that nobody seems to be signing up for your game. It doesn't mean you're a bad person or anything. You might just have it scheduled at a time when there are a lot of other games going on. If nobody has signed up for it after a while, consider moving it to another day or time when the schedule is less crowded.

Additionally, in case you haven't figured it out by now, there are a LOT of GM's at ENWorld. MORE than in the gamer population in general. There will almost certainly be games that don't get players because of this. I see it at the NC Game Day ALL THE TIME. Don't sweat it. If your game winds up being rather empty then take the opportunity to cancel it and go play in somebody else's game. It'll all work out. Trust us.*

One final note. There are old threads from 2007 in this forum. Please do not, on pain of suspension, bump any of those old threads. We don't want 2007 threads confusing things in 2008!

So let's get started with the scheduling. If any issues crop up along the way (and they probably will) feel free to post them in this thread and myself or one of the other mods will help out if we can. And in case you haven't heard me shout it from the rooftops, ENWorlder pickup games are some of the best you'll ever play! I had a ton of fun in every game I played or ran last year and this year will no doubt be more of the same!

*If it does not in fact "all work out", it's totally okay to blame Rel. Honest.

EDIT: Please note that none of the events on these pages are official ENworld events and they are in no way sponsored or supported by ENWorld or the owner of said websites.

All events planned on these forums are planned by the users as social gatherings during at and around conventions. Any use of said conventions names does not imply endorsement of said events by said conventions, nor is it intended as a challenge to any trademarks or brand names used.

As a corollary:

As events are announced in the forum below, they will be added to a seperate thread that can serve as a Master Event Schedule for the con. It should help all of you see what games still need players, and what time-slots still need games.

Corrollary?

On a more serious note, since this will be my first time at GenCon, where exactly will the ENWorld games be? Is there a general area for open gaming outside of the regular GenCon events?

I'm an easy moderator to please, because I am apparently illiterate.

ENworlds events are typically held in one of two places: The lobby of the Embassy Suites, or the second-floor mezzanine of the (I think) Hyatt Regency*, across the street (diagonally) from the main convention hall.

A few games are held in other locations (people's rooms, etc.), but the bulk of the events will be (if years past are any guide) in one of those two places.

When the ENnies booth was still outside the convention hall, there was usually a printed copy of the master event schedule with game locations written on it. However, the ENies booth is now *inside* the convention hall, which effectively means that most game locations will have to be coordinated, as much as possible, before Gen Con even begins.

*It definitely starts with an "H."

What The Universe said. Also, we generally try to exchange cell #s ahead of time, so DMs can contact the players if plans change or something.

Speaking of which, maybe we can get one of the Indy locals to scout the Hyatt ahead of time and see what the layout is, assuming they've finished all the renovations. I think it's a nicer venue there than the Embassy lobby.

Not a local, but I'll be down there next weekend or maybe the weekend after. I'll try to have a look.

HINT: Gaming comes down to having fun. If somebody at the table doesn't have the same expectations as the rest of the group, you're going to have trouble. Doesn't matter if it's rule set preferences, roll vs. role play, or bringing the right munchies. You need to set the expectations for the campaign when you gen chars or you are going to get hosed at some point.

FINALLY got a chance to get down there. The Hyatt is done with construction, though it looks/smells like it was completed in the last week or so. Today, they had no tables on the ground floor, and it was weird to see it not packed with gamers.

The SubWay and McD's are still there, as is the Pizza joint, but the gift shop has been replaced with a restaurant.

Cool!

I'll plan to run my games there, then!

Thanks for checking it out!
