So, I'm trying to take another crack at GenCon

Last year, I went despite not being registered for any games. I spent most of my time in the dealer's room, becasue there just weren't many pick-up games to be had.

This year, I'm trying to do things right and register in advance. But most of the games I'm interested in are already full, which isn't surprising when there's only twenty or so seats total and you have thousands of attendees.

So, my question is, was there a cut-off date for scheduling games? Should I expect any more games to open up?

I know there aren't a lot of females at GenCon, but I'm pretty sure there's more than 10.

I think they said there would be more opening up as time went on. Also, you can get generics and look for games where people drop out or are no shows. This is pretty common, especially when it's a game where they're running 10 tables of the same thing in a room.

And, the best games at GenCon are ENWorld games; keep an eye out here for the really good games.

Oh, you're a funny one!

I hope they post more. From my experiences last year, I cannot recommend generics for anything but D&D games.

OK, now I'm finding that I can't buy tickets if they conflict with the time of another event, which lasts 4 hours. I can fully understand why they'd prevent me from doing that--I'm even kind of grateful for it--but I see no way to cancel the initial event registration. Is that possible?

If they are still in your shopping cart, go to it; there you can click a checkbox next to the event you want to remove, and click the Remove button.

If you have already bought it, you have to cancel the event; I don't remember off the top of my head how you do that, unfortunately. I know you can -- I did last year.

Also, for events -- occasionally, a previously-full event will have a seat open up -- either someone canceled for some reason, or they just put it in their cart & never checked out (once you put an event in your cart, that seat is reserved for you for 24 hours). So check back -- every day if you can. You can get into things later, at least once in a while.

And they do add more events -- the RPGA events haven't been submitted yet, for example. That will probably be a large chunk of games. And other games get added, too, if last year is indicative. Between May (when event reg opened) and August last year, they added 133 RPG events, for example (actually, they added more than that, because they also removed a few -- GMs who cancelled, I guess).

PS: Keep an eye on this forum, too, and sign up for ENWorlder games.

To cancel a purchased event you need to call Gen Con customer service with your badge ID and the event #.
