You hired a medium-level band of adventurers to go deal with it. THEY didn't return. You sent your cohort and his group to go deal with it. HE didn't return!
It might be time to dust off the old armor and call up your old band to hit the road once again. Your horse is looking at you like you're nuts for even considering saddling him.
Players will supply their own characters, to be approved ahead of time.

This was a game I ran at a tiny con in New Hampshire back in '04. Players supplied their own 15th level characters (whom were at least middle-aged) and chose to make it an all dwarf party. That session was fairly roleplay heavy, with players swapping old adventure stories around the poker table and making comments about their youngest teething on the Mace of Saint Cuthbert.
