Congratulations! You’ve been chosen as the winner of the Dungeons & Dragons Never Split the Party Contest!

Your submission was chosen from hundreds of entries for its creative and nostalgic reflection on the fun times you and your gaming group have had playing D&D. Now, we’d like to give you the opportunity to reunite your group at Gen Con Indy 2009 (Aug. 13-16)!!
Without ENWorld I would not have known about the contest at all, so here is a big:

THANK YOU!

I got the okay from Wizards to share my submittal (had to sign a waiver don'tchaknow), and so here is a copy with the private bits all removed:

Describe your original D&D gaming group including, identifying each member by first and last name (in 100 words or less).
We were in the Inn again.
The Sorceress Nafia was settled at a corner table with a goblet of wine while small whisps of flame danced about her head. Orgon was stomping into the inn looking guilty after "accidentally" knocking-out a horse with a reflexive punch. Sir Ducayne and The Bard were chatting up a couple of local lasses at the bar. The dwarven cleric Surma had settled near the hearth and seemed to be enjoying some stew while simultaneously listening to every single thing being discussed.
What trouble awaits?

How did you meet?
Several of us had gamed together while attending High School in the early 1980s. After heading off to college the quasi-regular gaming group just seemed to coalesce from the ether (perhaps the ethereal?).

Where did you gather to play?
Three of us shared a rental house and it soon became the gaming location of choice. It was dubbed 909 North in reference to the address. Our dining room was transformed into a game pit with a large table, some couches and comfy chairs, miniatures collections, and shelves of rulebooks. There was even a large sheet of plywood stashed away that we could bring out to make the gaming table even bigger!

Were you the Dungeon Master of the group? What was your PC?
I was most often the Dungeon Master, but whenever I was able my favorite PC to play was "Bannor the Bold". Bannor was a human fighter that was physically and mentally scarred after surviving several adventures in the Realms of Ravenloft. (His penchant for stuffing holy wafers into the decapitated heads of fallen enemies became an obsession that definitely bordered on psychosis.)

Did you have any fun "house rules"?
One of the most notable house rules was not-so-much a direct game rule as it was a rule for playing the game. Sir Ducayne was absolutely the most unluckiest die roller ever to grace the gaming table. As such, whenever there was a d20 to be rolled there was a procedure to help improve his luck. While reclined in his favorite gaming chair he would have to drop the d20 with his left hand over his shoulder, but only on to the hardwood of the next room and not the carpet of the dining/gaming room. A great commotion would then ensue as everyone scrambled to find the die that usually bounced all over the floor and would come to rest underneath any one of various pieces of furniture.

What was your favorite game night tradition?
At the time we were always underfunded and overly hungry. The local pizza place seemed to continually have a "Pizza-Pizza!" special for buy-one-get-one-free. We fully took advantage of that special to such an extent that the delivery guys didn't even bother knocking anymore and would just walk-in with our pizzas. Although, The Bard liked to warn us that Pizza-Pizza Night could easily be followed by Puke-Puke Morning if too many beverages were mixed with way too much pizza.

When was the last time you played together?
During the Spring and Summer of 1993 college graduations were occurring and this lead to the group fracturing apart as we all sought new adventures over the horizon. Fortunately, I was able to marry one of the group and have kept her close ever since. We have had occasional game nights with a few friends, but nothing has ever compared to those days of gaming we enjoyed back at good ol' 909 North.

Why did you split up?
With college degrees in-hand and world of adventure waiting, The Bard moved to Las Vegas, Surma and Sir Ducayne to separate areas of Kansas, Orgon was off to Texas, and as for Nafia and I we moved to Southern California. I know that I did not fully realize that something so unique and fun as that group would be hard (if not impossible) to ever replicate. I am certain none of us really knew that those days of gaming would be remembered so fondly and missed so badly.

Why should WotC reunite your game group at Gen Con?
We have tried many times in the past 16 years to get together for some gaming, and something has always prevented it from happening. Kids, jobs, vacation plans, family, you name it. Something has just always come up. But in this case I just have a feeling that winning this contest would be the grandest incentive for getting everyone back together to relive some of those glory days. We still have XP to gain and this call from the Dungeon Master of Dungeon Masters would certainly bring a few rusty adventurers out of retirement.
