"The locks are the key to finding them.
Look beyond the curtain, below the cauldron.
Beware teh doors with teeth.
Descend into the malachite 'hold, where precious life is bought with gold.
Half a dwarf binds them, but not for long."
I'd like if everyone would post their first thoughts on this riddle to see if we can come up with a concensus, I posted my thoughts in spoiler form so as not to unintentionally sway anyones thoughts on the topic
Please don't read spoiler before posting your thoughts
Spoiler:
Line by line analysis:
Line 1: Ok so we're pretty certain that the locks are leading us to Ghelve's Locks
Line 2a: "Curtain" could be a waterfall, or could refer to the city gates
Line 2b: "Below the Cauldron" Could mean a cave or mine under the city afterall it is on a volcano
Line 3: "Doors with teeth" if line 2b is a cave then could mean the mouth of a cave with stalagmites/stalagtites, or could refer a metal gate perhaps
Line 4a: "Malachite hold" perhaps a malachite mine if the cave/mine assumption is correct
Line 4b: "precious life is bought with gold" my first immpression of this was slavery, perhaps kids being sold into child slavery
Line 5: I got no idea on this one guys.
This is just my take on the riddle, I'd love to hear yalls first thoughts on the riddle then perhaps we could figure this thing out...

As for the half-dwarf line, I was thinking maybe derro.

Locks are the key…… (some clue will be found in the locks)
Look beyond the curtain, below the cauldron. (Literal or not, Below the city, the basement of an alchemist, hidden entrance) (The lake could be possible, Curtain=waterfall)
Beware the doors with teeth. (Trapped doors, Cavern enterance)
Descend into the malachite hold where precious life is bought with gold. ( SLAVERY, Malachite hold= ? Irreverant?)
Half a dwarf binds them, but not for long.
Half a dwarf binds them? (Something happens, they are sold into slavery perhaps, or else…… sacrificed? Something happens)
Whats all this half a dwarf business ne way?..... Prob irreverent….
Clue is in the locks of the orphanage or in the locksmiths shop who made them,
Through a waterfall, or a hidden door in an alchemists lab, lake would be cauldron if not literal.
Traps on the doors, or a cavern entrance.
Involves slavery in some dwarven establishment (Deep Dwarves?)
Could a deep dwarf be the “half a dwarf” and not for long is either being sold or sacrificed. Etc. (means the group would have to act fast)
So, yeah.... :P, i really can't hold it in X_X
Note: this was all written right after Themind posted the riddle, none on these thoughts were influenced by anything u guys have said... Kind of ironic, since people have thought up similar things to me, which means this is a good riddle, not to crazy... Sorry for the wierd format of writing i did, but this was written as it came out of my brain so :P

Oh crap, those things are dark creepers and dark stalkers, from Fiend Folio. Nasty bastards...
Don't worry, theMind, I won't meta-game my character, just warning you that, being the owner of all of the existing monster books, I know what the hell those things are.

Well Loot split time...if no one minds I'd like to take the Rapier and perhaps the dark cloak if it adds any to my hide skill (perhaps magical or just the pattern) that is, otherwise will probably be good for someone else to take it
And the crossbow & bolts would be good for anyone that doesn't have one
And the thunder stones would probably be good for our fighter to have to get the attention of creatures

Just a few thoughts
Hell yeah I'll take the flash-bangs. Nothing like thrusting a thunderstone into a guys face...

If no one needs them, I'll take the crossbow and bolts. A ranged weapon for a 1st level spell caster would be a useful, if safer, conbat choice until I get a few more spells per day.

Hmmm...so anyone think that there might be some sort of Rhym or reason as to who has been Kidnapped? or yall think its just happenstance based entirely upon who they had access to?
Alchemist
Law Clerk
2 Prostitutes
Militia man
Horse Barder
Barkeep
Sage
Minstrel
Chandler
Lamp Lighter
Apprentice Jewler
Cartwright & Wife
Skinner
Scribe
Shoemaker
Wizard
Theif
Adventurer

Well, really it's a list of the basic people you would need to run a small fortress. Basic set of skills there. Really, I have no doubt that this involves slave trade, possibly with derro from the half-dwarf line or the riddle, or a dwarf with a half-template.

The treasure split ya all mentioned above is cool with me. Blutok is not interested in any of the stuuf....
As for the kidnapping list, I agree that most of the people would be good for running a keep, and/or would be valuable slaves....
Sorry for the long delay. A mouse chewed through my phone line, in a town five miles away! They just got it fixed last night (after three days), but I think I'm caught up on everything now.
Feel free to divide treasure any way you see fit. There's nothing that I need, and Pelor will provide.
The victims seem randon to me. Not trashing any other theories here, but if you open the DMG and roll on the tables randomly, you could get this result pretty easily. Well, except maybe for the four orphans.

OK, we are going to use a new dice roller. We are going to try Invisbile Castle.
So please bookmark it so you dont have to try and find it again.
When you next post in the game, please post the name you will be rolling under. And when using the roller, use the Format for Ezboard option, an easy way to post rolls on the boards.
