I have been considering this idea. I now present it, as you founder, to the community to make an attempt at moving this Foundation forward.
There are a number of free forum-hosting site in which I could create a forum for us. This would allow us to create large Categories of Threads. Currently, all of our threads are clumped together in the "General Discussion" Category.
Creating our own would allow us to create categories such as "GMF Games/Roleplaying", "GMF Advise", "General Chat", etc.
I propose, with your permission, to create a forum (sadly outside of ENWorld) to really move the GMF forward.
We will still maintain ties to ENWorld, fear not. But I think the better organization will stop threads from being lost and allow us to really get thigns done.
Firstly I'd like to say that I am all for the idea, infact I'd love for the GMF to become its own entity and be a success...but even so, I'm concerned that since the GMF seems to go in waves of high traffic and low traffic and since we are now moving into a,historically, low traffic time of year due to multiple reasons perhaps this would not be the best time of year to initiate such a move. Also despite the total number of members we have here in the GMF are active members only represent a fraction of that. It would be nice if we could bolster our active member numbers and I must say that we have a good place here at EnWorld to be able to such a thing, Of course I would support any move that the group decides upon 100% I'm just voicing my concerns.
Oh, I planned to keep a recriutment thread and such here at ENWorld. However, as I noticed a higher amount of traffic in the past few weeks, I figured now would be a good time to ask since many seem to be perusing the forum.

I think a move would be a good idea, but not now for the same reasons Catavarie sited. I'm kinda' disappointed that so many people stopped posting, but I think at least for the moment it's because with summer coming up a lot of people have hectic schedules. At least, that's my problem.

Unfortunately, we're still in the same lump we've been in for a while. Actually, when we moved forums it really boosted up the amount of people made if you remember, but it would probably be tempting fate to do so at this time of year. We still need to figure out some stuff soon though to keep people's interest alive. I'll try posting the classes for the sci-fi campaign I'm working on this week. We've got one of the six classes in it's final draft, and several more that only need a few edits.

Good idea, my thought was that the forum would make it easier to organize such ideas. I find myself often sifting through the threads going "Where the heck is..."

It certainly will, but we always lose a few members when we move, so it might be better to wait till we can afford it. I'll always be here, but I'm not sure about some other people.
The one problem with creating our own forums is that it will probably cut down on our intake of new members, since less people will find it.

Talk to Morrus about puttting up a thread in general about it. He should be okay with it, I'd expect. I'd like it if we could really get a neat little hub in the internet going - heck I'd sign up as a moderator if you'd have me! Of course, it'll be slow-going for awhile, but you just need to register with google and let'r rip! Also, making a wikipedia article could be a good idea
Anyways, if those are your wishes, I'm all for it. It's all about evolution and adaptation, and if that is the stage where we are at, then we can only move forward. Three cheers for the GMF and three cheers for ChaosEvoker

Say what? Not sure of your response to my post, but it's been a long day
Just joshin ya mate...ya seemed to be in overdrive with ideas to move the GMF to bigger and better things
But just as a side note for people to keep in mind, not only are we in an established location now, but we do have a built in audience to pull new members from here at EnWorld...perhaps a better solution would be to talk to the EnWorld staff about initiating a new branch of the main forums for GMs and the GMF in particular so that we could keep our target audience nearby and still give us a bit more freedom, plus it would make us more visible if we had a Forum listing on the main Forum page, plus Google already has Enworld forums in the search lists...just a thought, although I deffinately think that more flexibility is in order, and more mass appeal to all gamers.

There are many options to consider, if we could convince morrus to allow us such freedom, that owuld be ideal. I fear, however, that such a freedom would come at a cost. How we could handle such a cost, I do not know.
