Nik mentioned last night about the crap wizards have to go thru to learn and scribe spells from another wizards spell-book.
Personally I think the way it's set down in the books is balls and we've never really adhered to it previously therefore just want your confirmation that it's ok to do away with that and just be able to use other books as is and scribe without cost, (actually it's more about being able to use another mages book).
The way I see it is that magic is just another language and I find it hard to visualize that every single mage writes magic in a different langauge, it just sounds absurd! Sure if the mage is maybe of a different race however a human mage should be able to use another mages book without having to decipher another human mages book and scribe into his own.
Your ruling would be appreciated on this Russ.

Well the cost of scribing will be fine, I can put up with that. I'd suggest maybe reducing the time spent to scribe to 1 hour/level unless of course you just want to allow the downtime?
In previous campaigns we have just done away with all the normal rulings as far back as I can remember; when you find a new spell you just auto learn. Mind you me Wiz in the prev long campaign died pretty quickly.

With Al scribing scrolls and me (probably at lvl 6) and Steve both having Craft Magic Item feats, there's likely to be a bit of a demand for downtime, anyway...

However it would be nice to be able to use the new spells I get before I have to put another 3 levels under my belt.
Just remember it is for the benefit of the party.

I was wondering guys if I could use the proceeds of our pawned loot such as the silverware etc. to front the cost of scribing some new spells into my book?
I have just taken Craft Wondrous Item as my 3rd feat as well if that helps you come to a favorable decision?

We could flog the lot at the moment and come up with about enough money to let you scribe 3 spell levels into your book, I reckon.
That might not, therefore, be all that popular with some in the party!
(The most valuable item we have in the bag is... well, it's that spellbook you're never going to let go of!)
Ok nps, with my share of the above I might just be nearing to scribe 1 spell which is a start at least.
With regards to the book....well it's kinda like asking the fighter to sell his armour! And it NEVER, I repeat, NEVER was put into anything other than my robes
Btw how do Bard spells work. I never really considered the book of any use to anyone other than me?

Don't think necromancy is much of a bard forte generally
They cast like sorcerors...
It might be of limited use to me, could study what's available and pray to my god for similar miracles. Although frankly a lot of the stuff I've seen so far looked too 'icky' for me.
