Just a minor thing but you should probably switch Dex and Con to better fit the actual character sheets

Excelent tool. Now I can make NPCs and not have to write crap down! I love it!

Looks nice.

When making a rogue as a test I noticed that I could not choose dagger as a ranged weapon.

Edit: Also, when dagger was equipped it did not take the rogue's +1 attack bonus with daggers in the final product.

Hey yeah that's a pretty smooth program . . . but I found myself at the end of the process without ever getting to choose a dilettante power for my half-elf

Also, I think it would be great if it could a) show 'the character so far' including most/all of the choices up to the point where I am; b) pump out the final character in a format other than just plain text.

For (a), this is especially true for the ability scores, since at the beginning it said "your racial bonuses will be added automatically!" but then I couldn't actually see them until the end; it makes me nervous when I can't see that the bonuses actually occurred

For (b), I'm not sure what format would be best, but maybe a formatted html file for printing would be good.

Also, an impromptu (c): Consider pumping out the powers' attack bonuses based on ability scores. I know this would be exponentially more work, especially if you calculated damage as well and included full text (which you'd probably want to avoid anyway for legal reasons), but that's why I said to 'consider' it

nice and quick, but not finished.
Couldn't select Handaxe as a ranged weapon
Initiate of the faith did not add religion as a trained skill, nor did the 1/day healing word show up.

Regarding this

Have to admit its good, I failed to notice I was supposed to select a bonus class skill so thanks for that however... is there any reason Multi-class: Warrior of the Wild has been left off the feat list?

To start with, thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm really glad that you find the program useful. Let me answer some of the concerns mentioned in this thread:

Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out.

Just to be clear, this program is intended to take most of the work out of character creation, but not all of it. In particular, I deliberately tried to keep the gear section as simple as possible; you have the option of selecting armor, a melee weapon, a ranged weapon and the standard adventurer's pack -- and that's it. Past that, you'll have to work out the rest yourself.

For those who want to add additional weapons or attacks to their character, I suggest you click the "Show Work at End" checkbox at the top of the Export Character section. This will give you a full list of the math the program uses to calculate your attacks, defenses, skills and certain other character features - making that math much easier for you later on. For the moment, that's the best that I can do.

Err, it hasn't... provided that either your Str or Dex is 13 or higher.

Quote:

Yeah, sorry about that. That's one of the abilities I haven't found a way to support yet. I'll be sure to add that to the list of quirks at the bottom of the page, for the time being.

I just recently figured out a way to make such a feature work. I'm hoping to add it in with the next big update. So it's definitely on my to-do list.

You basically just summed up all the reasons I haven't done this... and probably won't, to be honest, in the future. Like I said earlier , most, not all, of the work...

I'm afraid the Multiclass feats aren't currently supported.

You know, I got so used to the way things were in 3.5 that it honestly didn't occur to me to do things otherwise until someone mentioned it in one of the other forums. That said, with the exception of their order, each of the abilities do exactly what they're supposed to do in 4e... out of curiosity, how important is the arrangement of the abilities to everyone? Does everyone prefer it the 4e way? What do all of you think?

Nice. Not perfect, but nice. Glad to see you're still willing to work on it.

That was really cool. Thanks for the new tool. I was able to sit here with my GF and crank out an elven ranger for her in under 3 minutes. Awesome!

This is nice, thank you. I really like how at the end it doesn't dictate a character sheet, but just the text. Very cool.

Love it

I love it. I have two requests and I bet they're both hard.

1. I'd love an actual PDF character sheet at the end, although the text is nice.

2. I'd like to do levels other than 1.

Great stuff!

Well, its grouped the way it is in 4E for the abilities' relations to defenses. Str/Con for Fort, Dex/Int for Ref, Wis/Cha for Will. Not necessarily better, just...more organized?

Anyways, thanks for this generator, I always find a ton of uses for stuff like this, from pregens for pickup games, detailed NPCs, etc.

Any plans to support level 2+ generation?

You know, I wish I could, but as it is I'm afraid I've got my hands full just trying to support Level 1. This is really the best that I can do for the moment, on my own.

Incidentally, it occurs to me that I don't actually mention this on the page - but if you click the "Show Work at End" checkbox on the Export page, the program will append a bit at the end of the program that will show you all the math it's done. Should make recalculating for a higher level a bit easier, I hope.

Anyway, I'm really glad that everyone's enjoying the program. Please keep the feedback coming, everyone, and thanks again for the kind words.

Noted. Thanks for the feedback. Anyone else have any thoughts to share on the matter?

You're right... that is pretty hard, unfortunately. If it's any help, though, I am hoping to add on a "Print Character Data" feature, which should spit out a formatted HTML page that you can save, print off, whatever. Also, if you click the "Show Work At End" checkbox on the Export page, the program will spit out all the stuff you should need to quickly fill out a character sheet on the side. So there's that.

Very Nice!

As long as it provides all the basic options for starting characters, it's a godsend... or is that dietysend...
