I'm simultaneously pleased and disgusted by how many cool rares are in this set. I see a few that i would want multiples, and that can get expensive. I just wish these sets were smaller and came out at longer intervals. My pocketbook would like it, anyway.

In one case you will get all of the commons & uncommons and half of the rares. If that isn't 'most of the set' I'm not really sure what is.

When it comes down to it I don't buy random boosters anymore. I have so many DDM now that I simply pick and choose a few unique minis from each set and buy them on the secondary market. If I pay $10 for a Skull Lord so what? I could spend 10 times that on the minis and still not get one playing the random game!

This is what i do. I buy exactly the ones I want, and how many of each. I hate the random grabbag approach. While fun in a way (ooh! ooh! what i'd get in the box?) it gets old when you pull seven poorly sculpted halflings you never wanted.

Heh. You should check out the maxminis forums for the wailing and gnashing of teeth every time a Dragonborn mini is produced.

But I do agree with you - I want a lot more dragonborn minis for my game (on the bright side I have found that some of the older 'Spawn of Tiamat' minis work great for DBs - the Redspawn Arcanis, Greenspawn Zealot and Blackspawn Raider to name just a few - no females though ).

Of course you wouldn't have to do all the levels for one mini in one set, you could stagger them through future releases.
Yes there was - Ral Partha iirc.

Oh and I think this is an excellent idea! The minis usually got better armour, weapons (ie more intricate and expensive looking) etc. heck you could even stagger the rarity as well but that might lead the the wailing/gnashing thing.

To me, WoTC made a deliberate decesion to move away from some of the standard fantasy fair in terms of gnomes and half-orcs. Other races, human, dwarf, elf, halfling, have tons of commons and uncommons.

By making the tieflings and dragonborn core races, the 1st thing that should have been done was to make sure that common class combos were commons, and that other presentations of them were made and some "named" characters were put out to represent then.

Second thing is that monsters that the KNOW are going to be in adventurers, especially those you need multiples of, should be out in force.

New request: is Feywild already done? Manual of the Planes is coming, can we have a Modron for Feywild? A common modron?
