I like the cover of MM2 quite a bit...i even got the Aspect of Demogorgon in the mail yesterday. But, as far as the rules themselves between the covers...i hope it's better than the MM 1. I didn't really like it very much. I'll still buy it though, i'm a sucker for monster manuals.

I am in the once bitten twice shy camp. I'll wait and thumb through it before I decide to buy or not. If it sees as much use as the core Monster Manual I probably won't buy it.

I love monster books and even get ones for games I don't play, so I expect eventually I'll be picking this up for the art and the demogorgon write up even though I don't currently play 4e.

But I've got a ton of 3e monster books to still get first and it won't be a priority among the non 3e ones I buy.

None for me, thanks.

Any money I might have spent on 4e (don't play it) has been instead funneled to my new vice that is slot machines.

I'm all over the MMII like a two-headed tentacle monkey! I can't wait to see what kinds of monsters and cool ideas we get once 4e has been out for a year, so its a no-brainer I'll buy this.

I wasn't overly enthusiastic about MM1, so we'll see what this one is like. MM are useful though, and I'm a big fan of monsters books - not so much for their content as for their concepts. Concepts you can take and use in any game, and a lot of the mechanics is easily converted as well. Let's put it this way - I'll pick it up to pull it apart.

Only commie-terrorist-facists who eat cherry pies dislike two-headed-baboons with tentacles. 4E is my lord and master! All priase 4E!

Which reminds me that I've bought monsterbooks i knew i wouldn't use (not just dnd), only for the art and inspiration.

But on the whole, I wasn't impressed by the 1st MM's art direction (too many ugly / cartoony monsters)

As for the flavour text, well, you know...

I am looking forward to it. The more monsters the better. I just hope there are more stats in it like the appendix of MM 1

Well, if this book is anywhere near the quality of the first one, in my opinion, it will be a must buy. The new MM, and 4e in general make encounter building so easy.

This. Except I voted "other".

a) I liked the LA/ECL/Savage Species mechanics in 3e
b) I think stripping away detailed backstories, and equating each creature with a minimal set of 2-3 'schtick' abilites, makes for a boring read and tending-towards-boring play

Therefore c) I won't be buying any more 4e monster books (and I voted 'other' in the poll)

Meh. I'll decide after I've thumbed through the copy of the guy in our group who'd vote "Absolutely. I plan to purchase all of WotC's 4E books no matter what".

cheers

I'll probably get it, if for no other reason than to grab a few new ideas and to keep up-to-date on what has and hasn't been converted to 4e yet. I enjoy designing things for 4e (especially monsters) even though I haven't played it since the first three or four months after it came out. Our group has mostly switched over to Star Wars Saga Edition and World of Darkness, so when we do break for D&D I try to push for a 3.5 campaign, since most of our group prefers playing with that ruleset.

I'm rather torn about the artwork, though. Overall the quality is much better than early 3.5e and I feel like I'm actually looking through an illustrated bestiary, rather than just some book with a bunch of pencil and ink sketches by often mediocre artists (no offense intended to any 3.5e artists - there was some really good artwork out there, especially towards the end, but most of it just wasn't to my tastes). On the other hand, as a few others have already mentioned, too many of the monsters have been reduced to Generic Ugly Beasty #X. I would like to see a lot more variety in the future - hopefully as they begin statting up some of the more obscure and bizarre creatures we'll see a move in the right direction.

Another thing I'm not too keen about is the the rewritting of the planes, but that is neither here nor there and is easily fixed by adding in a few new creature origins.

Unfortunately, I'm not sold on 4E, even if I do find Demogorgon's efforts at remodeling himself after Beast Man to be amusing.

The poll says it best; those two-headed orange monkey demons do, in fact, rule.
