So twisted, he needs a corkscrew to put his robes on in the morning
The WOTC site has an article up about the history of D&D starter sets. That's all well and good, but to top it off the article ends with 4e stats for everyone's favorite evil magic-user, Bargle.
Oh, and I have one shiny XP for the first person to post where the quote in the thread title comes from.
A play on Hunter Thompson's obsessivly hateful obit. for President Nixon. Rolling Stone, June 16, 1994
"Nixon was so crooked that he needed servants to help him screw his pants on every morning. "
Will refrain from further comments, as this isn't the forum for them. I just wanted that shiny xp.

I have no idea where that quote is from, but I have to say that the 4e stats for Bargle really captures an old school feel IMO.

I'm pissed because they skipped my Basic set. The one, true basic set from the height of D&D's powers.
Morgan Ironwolf, Fred, Silverleaf, Sister Rebecca, and Black Dougal FTW!

Right?
I was also amused at the creative edition numbering they used in order to sync with their editions.

Close, but no cigar. At least that's not where I got it, and I don't feel like going through them to check if it might be there either.
Well then it's not in either the Karameikos Gazeteer or the Five Shires Gazeteer.
...
Well, I can now tell you who said this slanderous thing about Bargle: Terari,
master of the Karameikan School of Magecraft. How the 2nd Ed Karameikos Boxed set can repeat such villainy is beyond me.
PS. The 3rd level Bargle on the WOTC site really sells him short! The man had skills!

And we have a winner!

Well, the version in the Basic set wasn't so hot. I guess he had to keep up with the PCs somehow.
