Elder Evils Updated One At A Time?

So I remember when Elder Evils and a few other books came out at the tail end of 3e.

There were supposed to be updates to those books online no? I remeber them saying that the symbol on the back, the "Get More At D&D Insider" was supposed to one day have those stats for 4e to make these books compatible with the new edition and insure that the buy was "good" and not just for 3e.

Looking through Open Grave, hey, stats for Kyuss.

So is that how the people who bought those last 3e books are getting their updates? One monster at a time? Or is it possible that I'm just misremembering things? Wouldn't be the first time my aging brain has failed me.

Edit: Found one thing...
Quote:
They started off with going over the upcoming products. Some are 3.5.
Several are 3.5 with D&DInsider info planned, which should make them useable
in 4E. These include Exemplars of Evil (major nasty bad guys), Dragons of
Eberron, City of Stormreach, Elder Evils (mini-adventures which can involve
the guys from Exemplars, as well as Cthulu-type stuff), and Deserts of
Desolation, the next mini expansion which will include 4E monsters, with
revisions like the new troll and new ones like the Fire Archon shown on the
box art. And then there are the Edition-Proof stuff; coffee table books like
Dungeon Survival Guide (art spreads of famous dungeons), books like
Confessions of a Part Time Sorceress, Dungeon Tiles, and Inn Fighting, a new
noncollectable dice game.
AD&D anouncement - gen con 4th ed update 5th post down

Don't know if that's 'official' but I could swear...

The only update I know of was a web enhancement introducing a new elder evil and a self contained lv20 1-shot. I am not aware of any attempts or plans to convert them to 4e though.

Somehow I don't think you'll see those 3.5 books updated anytime soon.

Is there's any financial incentive to do so at this point?

Probably not. I wonder if those books didn't sell very well (relatively speaking) because they came at the end of the 3.5e product cycle, and since they didn't sell as well, WotC can't justify devoting the resources to their full conversion. I guess if that was the case, then using elements in new books would probably be the best case from their perspective.

Scott stated a few months ago that the Stormreach update was in development (at least, I think it was Scott, it might have been another WotC employee).

Obviously, they probably consider this a step below getting the GSL out, so it will likely be a while. Still, it seems clear they do intend to follow up on their promise. They just never gave a timetable, so aren't going to put significant resources into it.

Ah, the old never gave a timetable.

Heck, that should work for everything. "Hey, here's an incentive to buy these books. We're marking them with some logo to designate that we'll be updating them to 4e."

Six months latter...

"Well, we never said when."

True. However, they clearly have been working on it. It just seems that finishing it up isn't a priority (look at how easily Scott has been pushing off the GSL).

No snark here but how do you mean they've clearly been working on it? Some people were unaware that this was even supposed to be done. Heck, I couldn't remember for sure myself. The only working on it I've seen is putting the material into new books that people are paying for like Open Grave.

Because they stated that at least one of them was in development (admittedly, a while back). That means the preliminary design is done.

Now, maybe you don't believe them or me. If you don't believe them (again, I'm pretty sure it was Scott), then we have little to discuss. If you can't trust that sort of statement from them then there is little reason to discuss it.

If you don't trust me, sorry. I don't have the google-fu right now to find the statement. Maybe later.

Well, it's hard to take a statement made who knows when, as meaning that the preliminary design is done.

Or if it is, that they decide to chuck the independent 4e updates and throw them into printed products as appropriate.

And I know what you mean about google fu. Took me a little to find the quote about there being a 4e update on those products at all.

Turns out I found it. It was in a WotC GenCon report here.

Eberron in RPGs

Again, first a look back:

* Feb 2008: City of Stormreach (the 4th Edition conversion guide has been turned over and is currently sitting with the R&D development team).
* March: Adventurer's Guide to Eberron.
* Now: DDI's Playing Warforged, Expeditionary Dispatches, and the Artificer playtest articles are already online and available to read. In the future, you'll see previews of next year's Eberron Campaign Guide.

Is that saying in Feb 2008 that an update to 4e was ready?

No. It was listing the Eberron stuff for the year. It came out in Feb.

The bit about it being in development was just a side note. That means at the time (GenCon) it was in development.

I'm pretty sure Scott posted, on this forum, just before Christmas about these updates. I esp remember about the Elder Evils and it was pretty much ready to go and I think they were going to release it through DDI.

Good luck finding the post.

EDIT: LOL @ the pessimism:

Edition Proof Books?

Hmmm looks like they are ready to go, I wonder what's holding them up?

I'm still interested in these books and what form the updates will take.

I found them online for €14 each and they look good, if I can use them in my 4e game I'll bite...

Wow... I had completely forgotten Elder Evils was supposed to get updated to 4E stats. It would be mightly cool, and generate a lot of goodwill.

Personally, I'd expect them to be trickled out through Dungeon or Dragon, too, although I'm thinking that wouldn't fly with the non-DDIers. If they're done, maybe they're being held back for when there is a gap in the magazine submissions and they need a plug.

So the WotC definition of "a few weeks" is currently "11" (and counting).

(Just noting for furture reference when translating WotC speak.)

That's the current one? But the GSL "few weeks" were even longer! So they are improving?

They *did* release the errata on 3.5 books they promised. Took them quite some time, though.
