Amazon just emailed me to tell me I had to wait longer for my Arcane Power pre-order.
Guess that's another cancellation. Four for four now! At least they're consistent...
I gave up on using Amazon for Arcane Power - I'm still waiting to get PHB2 from them!
Following peoples recommendations in this thread, I ordered Arcane Power from the book depository. A couple of weeks ago they emailed me to say the pre-order had been stocked. Then, a couple of days after Easter, they emailed me again to say that there was a problem with the supply and they were cancelling my order. WTF?
Sigh, search around...ok Waterstones- delivery date looks good, good reputation. Order placed....few hours later "your item is not currently available but has been ordered from the supplier, delivery date at some point in the future."
Argh!! It cannot be that complicated to supply UK internet book stores with sufficient stock! Wizards knows how many copies of Martial Power were sold and from which vendors. I don't understand what the hell is so complicated!
No wonder there is a piracy problem, Wizards, if paying customers cannot get hold of legal hard copies!

Amazing. You'd think you were on a South Pacific atoll rather than in a first-world country, wouldn't you?
On the upside, at least you don't have long to wait until DDI is updated. I know, Character Builder is a poor substitute when what you really want to do is browse for cool stuff.

You'd almost think it was a deliberate policy to not supply books to boost the subscriptions to the D&DI.
Of course in cases like this (and the pulling of all PDFs) I apply Hanlon's razor.
"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."
From experience it seems particularly true in WotC case.

I think they're strategy is really to get people to buy both. I don't think they want anyone giving up the books for just a DDI subscription, at least that's not the impression I get from Scott Rouses's posts. Lately it almost seems like "please, please buy the hard copy books...", but I could be reading too much into things.
I can see them producing far smaller print runs though, so they can talk about how the book is selling out. (or just to save money without saying anything)

Well I am on a South Pacific atoll (sorta) and I hope we are almost first world! I have PHB2 and amazon.com has posted AP, all for about 2/3 the price I get them here.
Something else you might want to look at Morrus, bookdepository.co.uk. I buy my textbooks from there, free shipping world wide and they often beat amazon prices. DnD not cheaper that .com (and postage) for me but maybe better for you...
Does that mean that you in 1 week sold the number of PH2's that you expected to sell in 4 months?
That's kinda what it sounds like.
Scott -- How are Arcane Power sales doing? Did I see upthread that Amazon.uk is out of those too?

Ahhh, New Zealand hardly counts as an atoll. You have regular air traffic, for one thing!
Well I am glad you even know where NZ is! Many of your fellow countrymen don't and ask such pertinent questions as 'do you have electricity?' 'do you have TV?'
My reply 'nope we still cook on a fire in the centre of our longhouse and the smoke goes out a hole in the roof'
I've had a few good experiences with the Book Depository, but recently they've been slipping a bit. I've had two or three cancelled orders (after, I note, I receive an e-mail telling me my order is being packed) with little explanation. Amazon also keeps delaying (I'm also in the UK).
I think I've come to the conclusion that I dislike shopping via the internet. I shall henceforth conduct my purchases in person, in a physical shop, where I know that they can't suddenly pull the product from my hands claiming unforseen circumstances.
I've found that if I pre-order a book on amazon.co.uk shortly after it is announced, then it ships pretty much on time. Since we're always a little behind the US, I check reviews and cancel if it doesn't sound as good as I expected.

Yeah, that's what happened to me too! I even tried calling them to get an explanation how they can send an email saying they have the book, and then they can cancel saying they haven't got it after all! But it still wasn't very clear
Scott - thanks for your comment on the PHB2, any thoughts please on how come AP is unavailable from both the book depository and Waterstones?
No problems at all here in germany, got my Arcane Power on tuesday, right at the announced release date. Though I'm not ordering via Amazon either, seems they have some serious issues with D&D.
The price has risen since I pre-ordered in November, but they honour the lowest price between the time ordered and the time shipped, so I get it for £11.21.
Would ordering from Amazon.com (not .co.uk) help? I've rarely had a problem with the US store, certainly not like what's happening in the UK. Okay, you have to pay and wait for delivery, but you'd probably still get the book faster.
