Program for encounter maps

Does anyone know a freeware program I can use to create my own encounter maps. I had found one some time ago, but it didn't include objects like tables, beds barrels, ...
Also what about world maps? Do you know a free program? In both cases it must be .

I used to use AutoRealm, it has a fair number of symbols available. The only problem I used to have was trying to get the maps to print at an exact paper scale (e.g. 1"=5') could be tricky, but the release notes for the latest release indicate that they have fixed that.

Another idea is to use Bryce 5.5 or similar free 3D app, do renders from above, I've got freebie models on my site just for RPG mapping in 3D: beds, tables etc and a grid, iirc
