Sounds like a justification after the fact to me.

Some Dwarves might think that the mountain needs to be improved, but a Dwarven Druid certainly doesn't; he's all about stone the way it is!

As a side note, this makes me wonder if Ur-Priests are going to see a comeback in PHB3.

Scion of ARkosia. Winged Dragonborn at-wil flight!

Count me in with the folks who like the dwarven druid concept. I mean, just look at all those shifts! I've got half a mind to make a dwarf whose 'beast form' is a bulette constantly burrowing into and exploding out of the ground on shifts or movements that do not naturally provoke OAs.

I find it amusing that building the classic gnome illusionist actually robs you of a good half your racial features. You still have Fade Away, but congratulations! your other racial feature (Cantrips) is overlapped by your class. It's of course a very tasty concept for every class but the wizard...

Edit: and while I'm on the subject, couldn't you create a quarterstaff for Small characters by dropping the damage die from 1d8 to 1d6 referencing page 220 of the PHB?

Maybe in earlier editions, but not in 4e. In 4e druids recognize civilization and progress as part of the natural order. It's when you get into rampant unchecked despoiling of nature like the goblinoids do that the druids get mad.

Unless your campaign has Evil Druids that openly revere a Demonic patron that believes that the best way to destroy the world is to "grow" faster than everything else and soak up all the nutrients and minerals in its proliferation, destroying the world.

But hey, Druids are the good guys, right?

99% of edition conflict boils down to "For me, there are a lot of things that [Edition] can not do in the way I want them done nearly as well as other systems can."

Like the real historical druids.
They had to chop down forests to build Stonehenge and all the stone circles. And their homes too.

Another oddity:

Avengers usually have a better armor class if they don't use shields.

One subtype of Avengers get a significant bonus to damage their target, for every hit they take from non-target enemies.

So it is sometimes better to have a lower armor class. So you can get hit more.

So it is sometimes better for an Avenger to use a shield. To lower armor class. So you can get hit more.

I actually had an idea similar to this, except it was a chained primordial that served as a perverted life symbol. In combat, he'd have an absurd regeneration, and cause everything around him to gain stackable temporary hp each round. When your temp hp=your max hp, you go explody. I also like the idea of the strikers occasionally taking a shot at fellow party members to keep them alive.
