There will be at least three more psionic classes. These classes will take the material from the 3e psion, the psionic warrior, and a bunch of psionic PRCs, mix them together and redivide the material by role. Since the psion was copied from the 3e wizard, it will have a lot of changes much like the wizard itself.
I expect 5 psionic classes. Two melee (monk/soulknife) and one of each other role, with the controller being a psion with telepath and kineticist builts. I hope part of the unique mechanic for at least telepathic powers is contact which was very flavorful (if horribly broken) as a mechanic. I think the total discipline of the monk will be a feature of all psionic classes.
This is bound to happen, no matter what the Psion looks like.
I seem to recall that, waaaaay back when 4e was in the preview stage, they mentioned that Wizards lost a lot of their mind effecting powers to give Psions some niche protection.
I'm still very new to 4E so pardon my dumb questions and stupid comments. Where exactly did WotC state that the psion is coming next month? Dragon magazine I assume? Is it as part of a article as a playtest version or is it in a published supplement (PHB3)?
I'm a long time fan of psionics. Never quite understood people's problem with the class or system as far as flavor is concerned (the first time I ever heard of psionics was in my 1st edition PHB so to me it's always been a part of the game and as appropriate as any D&D trope). I've also never understood peoples inclination to immediately think Monks = psionics (In my mind one is a martial artist the other is not). All of which is neither here nor there; I'm just stating my biases.
I'm not all that familiar with with the 4E categories so I don't know how they would fit in the leader/striker etc roles but I'd like to see the Psion, Psychic Warrior and Psychic Rogue (from an old WotC website article) make the classes. No idea who could fill the leader role although one could make a case for the Psychic Warrior making a good candidate instead of defender. The soulknife is the class that never did anything for me at all. He creates his own weapon. Wooptie do. Definitely an addon at best for the psywar IMO.
Not a full writeup I think. I think it's only going to be one build, like the Barbarian, Artificer, or Monk. Could be wrong though.
I'm not sure if the Psion is part of it, but it was announced that a sizable portion of PHB3 would be released in advance through DDI.

Personally, I'm hoping one of those "sizable portions" is the full Githyanki write-up, plus racial feats, or at least the Githzerai.
Now would be a good time for the githyanki writeup give their appearance in the latest Dungeon adventure path. We so need these two races as PC classes...

Same but for the Elan (they better be in PHB3). Also, I wouldn't mind random list of feats. Since it is a ways off to PHB3 coming out so having some feats that are based around the excerpts we are getting be nice (or be in the articles for each thing itself).

How do you know what the vast, vast majority of people wants?
I'm reasonably confident, that the vast majority of people who like 4E like the fact that they do not have completely different mechanics for every class, quite specifically.
Well, I'd ask, do the vast majority of people who like 4e like psionics?

Man 3.5 had psionics balanced perfectly. Heck, the Psionic Warrior was classified as the perfect "middle tier" class, one that was neither too underpowered, or too overpowered, and was noticed as a class that a newbie could play and reasonably enjoy a do well, while an experience player could get in and do wonders.
You're just pushing my buttons to push 'em, now
__________________ Psionics are too sci-fi, not like the traditional method of spell casting that has existed only in D&D, involves research, laboratory work, and formulas, and was cribbed directly from a series of science fiction novels. I mean, come on, calling forth the power to alter the world from your own center of will? That's not magical in the slightest! Not at all like my wizard's spell "Telepathy!"
I think the soulknife would do well to kill the lurk and psychic rogue and take their stuff.
Kind of my thoughts of how it'll end up, the lurk would get absorbed into the soulknife, because the soulknife is too cool of a concept to give up on.
After all, I really want there to be a soulknife with powers such as throwing their mindblade and have it multiply into a shower of mindblades, or having one float around and striking and parrying all adjacent enemies for an attack, or draining an opponent's strength with your mindblade, and so many other neat mindblade tricks.
And when you think back to the fact that most of the Lurk's special abilities were, do something special with a sneak attack. I can see most of those abilities becoming soulknife powers.

You know, I think it'd be cool to have them be like the Revenants, having some ties left over from their previous race, since Elan weren't born, but created (IIRC).
