I want the psion to be a controller with two builds to start with, a leader secondary telepath and a striker secondary kineticist. Lots of force effects and maybe some fire. Later on I'd love an even more pure control nomad.
ok, what can we gleam from the art for the cover of dragon
We have a psion firing two beams (ugh) at an illithid. The beams I would call radiant damage, and the psion is definattly wearing cloth armor, and holding an orb impliment.
Beams I don't like, Radiant I'm not happy with but more so than the beams, and I think orb impliment is very fitting...
What are the twin glowing bands around her head, a defence mode, hm??
Orbs in 4th ed reminds me of Dark Sun's obsidian orbs, wonder if that's where they got idea for orbs in 1st place? Or the regal regalia of Europe?
Wonder if they'll have rods, ala dorjeries ?
Well how is an artist meant to show an attack that maybe psychic?
sometimes I put effects in my art just to look cool/hint at what's going on, even if it wouldn't actually be visible.

I think she's deflecting a beam of energy. Orb might be the implement, but that could also be a psicrystal.

That would make more sense to me, since it doesn't seem all that targeted upon the Mind Flayer. Hmm... Being able to reflect/shield oneself is a pretty well used thing in fiction for psychic powers so yeah I think that could be quite likely.

The beams could be force damage. However I think a class, especially a controller class, should never be limited to 2 damage types such as psychic and force. It would make the Psion very limited in versatility as a controller if they didn't have radiant, fire, lightning, cold and so on powers in addition to force and psychic powers.
It's also possible that the picture doesn't reflect anything overtly mechanical about the class, because the artist isn't adhering to the mechanics to make a cool pic?

I know that but with still almost a week to go I have to keep myself from going crazy by overanalyzing the picture

For a given value of cool, I suppose . The picture looks kinda goofy to me. Is she shooting two rays, deflecting a beam, or, judging by the look on her face, dealing with heavy gas?
Eh, there's nothing about that picture that says "PSION!" to me. it just looks like another wizard.

I mean, come on, calling forth the power to alter the world from your own center of will? That's not magical in the slightest! Not at all like my wizard's spell "Telepathy!"
