OotS 666

Giant In the Playground Games

I love the reference in the last panel (the last thing Haley and Roy were talking about was Xykon's con and them not thinking like rogues).

And I seriously wonder what Roy's plan is since it can end everything in seven weeks. Mind you seven weeks is a long time, but still . . .

I have to admit I liked it. Nothing major happened there was no big reveal but it was funny and begins to position thing for the next plot arc. Funny plus narratively useful is a good combination in my books.

Yeah, what is the significance of seven weeks? I certainly hope it doesn't wrap up that soon.

The Oracle told Roy that Belkar would die before the end of the year. Roy is saying that there are seven weeks left in the year.

Now, that doesn't mean that they actually WILL beat Xykon within that time, but since they want Belkar's daggers as added muscle, they're going to try.

Also, I'm pretty sure that's seven weeks IN COMIC TIME, so those of us reading OOTS will most likely be entertained for quite some time to come.

After all, Belkar's "Change of Heart" was seven weeks back. How long ago did that comic first run, when he had the delusion and came back with 'character development'? I can't look now -- work blocked -- but if you start the clock when the cleric started casting "Restoration" how long ago was that event?

Also note, this was strip #666 and there were many, including me, that thought this would be a strip that included the fiends and possibly the soul-splice.

Only if you read it backwards.

That was strip #610, which was posted on November 21st, 2008.

I expected at least the last panel to include Lee telling his two pals "I have this nagging feeling we whould be doing something...".

Making plans based on some prophecy never works out right. It's like a law of fiction or something.

OotS #666: Seven weeks until the end of OotS?

Giant In the Playground Games

So they're going to "end this whole thing" in seven weeks? As in, seven weeks from now? Am I reading this right?

This makes me sad. It's like losing a friend...

7 weeks game time, not player time.

Nah -- that's seven weeks in-fiction time. Durkon started casting resurrection in 650; ten minutes later, he finished in 665.

At that rate, seven weeks will take 105,840 strips to get through! If Rich posted a strip a day, that would take about 290 years.

I don't think we (or our descendants) will be reading OoTS in 2299, but I'm also fairly certain that the strip will end August 10th, either.

OTOH, if the next strip starts off with a "40 days later..." caption, all bets are off.

Roy is a character, not a narrator.
And even narrators can be less than perfectly reliable.

Merged threads.

And I really need to catch up on my OotS - I'm at the end of WAR & XPs and need to hop online to read up.

Moderating threads is harder when you're trying to avoid reading spoilers.

The thing I'm most curious about with respect to Roy's plan is the specific timeline. o_0

Oh, I don't think they're going to manage it so quickly. Even if they kill Xykon, his phylactery is drifting in the ocean somewhere.

And there's a lot more plot elements that are yet to be dealt with...

Bingo! Even if we are near the final culmination of the Xykon plot arc, that doesn't necessarily mean we're anywhere near the end of OotS.

But we could be more then halfway done. And that would mean we're getting the short end of the Stick.
