Rule of thumb for encounter area?

A bit ago, someone posted a rule of thumb for encounter area... how much room you would need for an encounter with x combatants. I didn't bookmark it and now can't find it.

It may have been (total combatants) x 5 squares, but I don't remember

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Jon

Your quite welcome. How has your experience with that rule of thumb been working? Have you not been using it but noticed a recent problem that has drawn you back to it? Spill!

Interesting way to look at combat.

I'd like to see if anyone has characterized things not just on squares available, but on cover, and on things like maximum movement vector length. Basically, I love twisting corridors, pillar-lined promenades, rubble-strewn hallways and the like -- terrain with lots of features in it.

Cheers, -- N
