Had a pretty good run with 5 or 6 years in a row, but then missed last year to go on our 10th anniversary trip (to Seattle and Pacific coast ironically). This year we simply can't afford it. Well, technically the past couple times we went we couldn't afford it, but this time we realize that we can't afford it.
And I am not surprised at the average attendee spending over $200 in the dealer's room. I know I typically spent that on artwork alone! Then on Sunday when you get the really crazy deals from people not wanting to ship so much stuff back, it's very, very easy to spend a lot of money there.
Sadly, no, and I suspect my Gen Con days are probably over for awhile (at least until my kids are all old enough to go). Also, being down to one income doesn't help any.

No. I was planning to go to GenCon UK, but the convention isn't happening this year.

Nope, not this year as it conflicks with conferance at work. Maybe next year as I would like to get into a year-going, year-off rotation. Sad say I am starting to feel my GenCon days are numbered, just feeling my age and out of the mainstream of gaming but will see as I hope to retire at 55 (49 now) and will be having some free time on my hands.
