Which fighting style does your fighter use?

It seems to me that, just maybe, greatswords are more popular than the blade-n-board variety I favor. Alas, I have no proof of this.

So, without further ado, please vote for one of the three options - whichever most closely resembles your fighter.

PS this is a poll about fighters. There may be a poll about barbarians and rangers later.

You forgot:

single weapon style

archery

mounted combat

reach weapons

expertise-related (trip, disarm, etc)

sunder

unarmed

I like the good old fashioned longsword and large steel shield...though that shield may become a Tower Shield in the Revision.

Styracosaurus 17th June 2003 09:13 PM

I do think that the shield style needs some oomph, but should not require a lot of feats.

Nail 17th June 2003 09:15 PM

Of the big three, it looks like sword-n-board just got shoved into the back seat. We won't go into what might be done to it back there...suffice it to say it ain't pretty.

When I converted my 2e myrmidon kit fighter who had 1e OA martial arts, and two weapon fighting style specialty to 3e he came out as a ranger monk with bastard sword proficiency, but oddly enough I've always ended up using my magic bastard sword two handed.

Seule 17th June 2003 09:26 PM

Other: Mounted combat. He happens to use his lance or falchion (mounted or not, respectively) two handed, but that's not the key part.

I've always been partial to sword & shield, being a damage wuss, but my fighters are usually equipped for every situation (ranged / medium weapon and shield / 2-handed for maximum damage)...

I do polearms meself - the image of a whirling Ranseur going in for geat cleave power attack is just too kewl:D

Tell me about it... He could have at least included "The Big Four."

Single weapon style... When you need a hand free for holding a rope, a chandelier, a glass of wine, or your lady's perfect, tiny waist...

If someone can tell me how to edit polls, without being a moderator, I would have added more options. Even if just "other".

PS could we use current 3.0 fighters for the moment? Thanks :)

Tsyr 17th June 2003 09:50 PM

Other: Single Weapon Style (And I wish the feats from Dragon Magazine became cannon for this...)

I play a barbarian/fighter, does that count? Anywhoo, he wields a greatsword (two-handed, obviously...no monkey grip here :p ).

(Psi)SeveredHead 17th June 2003 10:05 PM

Multi-classing is fine ;)

Kaiyosama 17th June 2003 10:25 PM

Last fighter I played had one level of ranger and 6 of fighter. Elven, oriental (before OA). Didn't really see any option but katana/wakizashi as the pole arm just wasn't him. So dual it was.

ThirdWizard 17th June 2003 10:26 PM

Ranseur with Combat Reflexes for disarming, and if they get close Quick Draw a Dwarven Waraxe/Bastard Sword and pull out a shield. The Waraxe/Bastard Sword can be used 2H in a pinch though.

Um...

Katana two handed? (The far more appropriate way to do it?)

Longspear (Naginata)?

Or, assuming by "oriental" you had other choises than just japanese...

Jian (Longsword) single handed, or dual wielded?

Dao (Scimitar?) single handed?

*shrug*

Heck every fighter type I've played since 3e came out has been two handed style. Ever since FF7(which includes a lot of 2e) I don't play fighters any other way. Heck I've even slapped it onto rogues, and a sorcerer.

(Psi)SeveredHead 17th June 2003 10:44 PM

I had a sorcerer who used a glaive (not me, one of my players). He actually got to use it on weak opponents, too :D
