General RPG Rules Discussion[WAS CALLED "Pathfinder/OGL/D20 GAMES"] Discuss the rules of Pathfinder, d20 Modern and any other game except D&D, such as Arcana Evolved, Mutants & Masterminds, Star Wars Saga, and the like.
Depends on what sort of campaign you're looking to run, and what you're looking for out of your purchase.
If you're playing in Rebellion Era, then I strongly recommend tFU, as the wealth of info it provides on not only the Dark Times but on the Empire and its forces in general is a great boon to GMs. I found the whole "Unleashed" stuff to be pretty ho-hum, as really just a codified way of saying "here's what you can do when you spend a Destiny Point." The new PrCs are interesting, but none of them really scream "must have it!"
If you're looking for player options in general, I'd probably go with KOTOR instead, as it does have a wealth of options for players of any stripe and class
I'd also suggest saving up your pennies so you can get the other one ASAP, as they really are both great sourcebooks. I just happen to like KOTOR a wee bit more
That really is one of those YMMV kinds of things. I'd go to the store, look through them both, and then see which one "speaks" to you. For my money, you should have both!

Over all, I was more impressed with KOTOR (though I liked tFU). I would buy either for the statblocks for enemies, but unfortunately, WoTC has yet to put out abook where they consistantly stat out the enemies correctly.
I tried to run a quick anti-mandalorian KOTOR game with friends and was depressed to find they had only added half the level to about half the enemy's defenses.
ANNOYING!
Anyway, KOTOR, I feel, has more useable character options. tFU has a lot of good to it as well, but not like KOTOR.
"Not everybody likes the same sort of games.
Everybody ought to play the sort of games they like.
It's not a stupid idea to sometimes try something you're not sure if you like or not.
Just because somebody likes or dislikes something you feel differently about doesn't make them (or you) stupid or a jerk.
Except Julie Andrews. If you dislike Julie Andrews, you're a jerk. And Golden Retriever puppies." --Barsoomcore

I haven't looked at the stat blocks in detail yet, but do these enemies in question have nonheroic levels? Because those don't add to defense scores.

I don't have my book in front of me, but I'm pretty sure they didn't all have non-heroic levels. I even threw Mandalore the Indomitable (or was it the Invincible...?) at them, and I'm pretty sure he and/or Cassus Fett's stats were off.
I took a look at Mandalore the Overaccessorized -- what happened is that they added up all the bonuses for his Ref defense, but then forgot to put the base 10 on it. It's a very easy mistake to make, I've made it more than once myself. But it's also a very easy mistake to catch if they would just list the breakdown of the defenses etc. instead of the final score.

How much is the latest edition of the RPG different from the Revised Core Sourcebook edition? I've got two editions of the game, and never picked up the third one....but are the new source books compatible, or did things change *that* much?
Stuff from RCR is "easily convertible," but not directly usable at the table. The good news is, most of the RCR stuff has already been converted, either in an official book or at fan sites such as Saga-Edition.com.
The good news is, Saga Edition s a much better ruleset (IMO) and is extremely fast to pick up, learn and use. I can whip up just about any sort of conversion I might need in five minutes or less, usually.
