Darwin's World adventures

Which ones are good. No. . . OK, which are ones are the best, and why? And hey, how many of these things are there?

I haven't bought any, let alone run any, so I now turn to the insights and experiences of my fine fellow EN Worlders, most especially those who are likewise avid fans of Darwin's World.

So Psyched about Fallout 3, I honestly couldn't resist starting up another post-apoc campaign, or at least setting one up for the near future. It seems like ages since the last, as well.

Other post-apocalyptic d20 adventures might be alright too, I suppose. But I would rather the plug 'n play simplicity and quickness of having to do zero conversion work.

Metropolis Rho is an awesome adventure, maybe my favorite of Dom's adventures, though it's a bit more Judge Dredd than Mad Max.

I am also a big fan of Death by Corium Light.

Id mention Feeding Grounds, but since I wrote that one, it would be crass and selfish of me

All of them are good. Every single one. I've been following DW since (I believe) the day it was released as a 100 page book that used the 3.0 PHB. It has come a long way, yet it has the kind of staying power that will keep it going for a very long time. DW is easily one of the best things to come out of D20.

Metropolis Rho etc., check.

And oh, I'm in complete agreement, Darrin and Bill. But would you also mind maybe naming an adventure (or more than one) and giving some indication of what you like about it (or them) ? Some impressions? That'd be oh so useful, if you'd be so kind.

But either way, I'm glad - if not completely surprised - to see there are some other DW fans still lurking around this place.

I suppose I shouldn't ask (I don't really need more things to buy, truly), but is there anything new and basically irresistible coming out for Darwin's World, while I'm on the topic?

Next up for Darwin's World is Secrets of the Mind Master, a high level adventure (17+) and Burning Lands, a Twisted Earth novel both by setting creator Dom Covey.

I think we have 40+ adventures now. What type of pa campaign are you looking for?

Metropolis Rho is also one of my favorites, but it's not a traditional wasteland campaign. It's an adventure path that takes place in a dome city isolated from the wasteland. But it's a great adventure with good story.

Also, The Ruin At The End Of The World, might work for you. It's not a linear adventure but rather a whole ruined city of adventure to explore. You could run a sandbox type campaign with it.

But if you give me more information (type of campaigns, levels, etc..), I would be happy to suggest the best fits for you.

Also, Vault Dwellers is a nice campaign starter and might give you that fallout feel.

Fallout feel = totally optional. That game (well, some of the visual media) was just the trigger. I don't even know if I'm going to like the actual CRPG/shooter itself.

I guess, on thinking about actually narrowing it down some more, I'm looking for [at least mostly] a bleak wasteland backdrop, memorable NPCs, events and places, an overall nasty but interesting time for a small number (maybe 3, tops) of 1st level PCs. I might add in a DMPC if that's necessary, to sit on the sidelines, and maybe even be useful. Majority human, and er, 'human' opponents (and others) would probably be the go, but I'm open to alternatives here. . .

That might not narrow it down much, I know. Um, unfortunately I'm not even sure what the players might create, when it comes to that. . . although there's one I suspect could go for Symbiote at an early stage.

Really, very low level to start with is one of the most definite things so far. A really cool adventure path from 1-xx sounds like a neat idea - is that kind of thing available?

Or if not that, yeah. . . Ruin at the End of the World has a strong appeal too. . . gah. Maybe I'll buy a couple of things and just see what I feel like doing.

And on second thoughts, could you tell me more about Ruin at the End of the World? I've generally opted for sandbox-style campaigns, and maybe I'm best sticking with that.

Hmmmm....good question...hard to answer.
I like Metropolis Rho, but as others have said it is not a "regular" Mad Maxish PA adventure. Death by Corium Light is good, Vault Dwellers is good. It really depends on what exactly you are looking for in your Campaign. I usually don't run an adventure straight as is, instead I cut and paste stuff and tweak it for my own campaign and players. Glad to see a continued interest in DW. I agree with Darrin, it is one of the best things to come out of the whole d20 market. Not that I'm biased...my handle could indicate I have a slight love of all things P.A.

Radioactively yours,
Bill

Well, for first level, you could check out the FREE adventure, Cave of Life.

One note on that one, it can be a bit deadly. It used to be my demo adventure and I used it to highlight the harshness of DW.

Or, as stated before, Vault Dwellers is a great starting adventure.

Then you can go to Lost City, which is somewhat sandbox (then later, like 9th level, can play Return To The Lost City).

Then you can maybe play High Road To Hell

Then perhaps go to the nercoplis in The Ruin At The End Of The World.

There's also the Wasteload Series you could go through.
